Would it be a bad idea to buy this '03 A4?
Hey guys. I am a VW TDI guy but am always looking for good mechanics special deals. I found an '03 A4 3.0 Quattro with a broken timing belt for $1,000. How do these engines do with these failures? Does it just bent valves or bent rods and tear up pistons as well? I know I'll have to buy some special tools for the repair but it may be still be worth it? Are these cars pretty reliable or is this a model I should stay away from? Being that it's a lady I'm guessing it's an automatic of some sort and I'm unsure of the mileage right now.
Thanks!

odds are it'll need a new engine or complete rebuild-you'll never know how bad things went inside until you start tearing it apart.
its up to you if its worth the labor. if you don't mind doing all types of work you could probably find a number of b6s with some oil leaks, a CEL the owner doesn't feel like figuring out, or a higher mileage example for a much better deal.
