Default '05 QT A/C and Heater issue...

OK, Just bought the '05.5 with the 1.8T. Love the car, love the ride, but I have an issue... The AUTO mode for the heater produces hot air for about a minute, then switches to cool. WAY before it's warm in the cabin. It was almost 70 in CO today, so I checked the A/C... It blows warmer air, not cold at all! Same when you set a temp. The people at Audi Service of course want me to bring it in. ($$$!) I have an Audi, but for Pete's sake it's not brand new! I don't have the dough to just throw towards a diag. If anyone has thoughts, it's already appreciated! Many thanks!

Are you sure you don't have the AC on Econ mode?

Unfortunately, it is the same in ECON and recirculate. Has this happened to yours with ECON on?

the reason the air is coming out hot is because if the temp setting is higher then the outside air temp....even by a little it will throw off heat....if the temp setting is colder think 72 setting on an 84 degree day it will throw cold air

the cold air u feel for a minute is the fan blowing air before the heater is warmed up...

it sucks that its like that but its good to know ur car is totally fine

When the red light on the ECON is on the compressor is not running so the air won't cool.

The only thing that may differ on this is that the heater blows hot, then after about 3-5 minutes driving, highway, it turns cool. If I turn up the temp a degree, it gets hot again, then back to cool a minute later. Should I get it checked?

Hmm, sounds like maybe a sensor problem, bad thermometer or something.

Try turning off auto and set the temp to a HOT extreme and see what happens. I've had this happen in MN before. Today actually it was almost 30° (hot huh!!!) and when I was driving down the highway for a while the car had warmed up, and then the sun started getting hot on my face (though my feet were still cold) and the vent started getting cooler. The sensors are trying, but with high sun and low temps it can get confused.

All,
Thanks for your input! As it has been 65-70 degrees in CO, it has been a sunrooof and windows kind of week... Sorry to get you all jealous! I'll give these recommendations a try and get back with you soon! Thanks again, this forum is SWEET!

Wow, lucky.

With the temps up go ahead and try to run the heat manually. Maybe set it to 80 and let it run to see if it does in fact switch to cool or if it stay on then it's narrowed to a sensor either acting up or malfunctioning.

My forecast is attached....
