'08 A4 purchase
I have a chance to purchase a '08 A4 Quattro, S-line with 6 spd. manual. and 20k miles. As I was doing some research on the model, I came across this site. Right at the top is the sticky talking about the different fixes that must be done on the 2.0 turbo. Now I am a little worried about the reliability of an Audi! I have not owned a Audi or actually any foreign car before, so then when I read this it makes me second guess the desire to purchase this car. Am I being overly concerned? Thanks for any opinions.
I have an 07 a4 2.0t and absolutely love the car. Given I have only had it for 3 months or so but I have not had any problems whatsoever with it *knock on wood* but there are a few small things that shouldnt be overlooked. The main one is the cam follower which sits right under the fuel pump and on top of the cam. If that fails the cam will destroy your fuel pump and youll need to replace the cam, follower and the fuel pump but all u need to do just change the cam follower every 30k miles or so and you'll be good to go. Not to mention that this is a 60$ part and really not too tough to change specially if u a decent DIYer. Other things that are known to fail are DV's which if they fail, all you'll see is a loss of boost so no biggie there, and thats a 75$ part for the new revision D so u can change it now and it should be good to go or just wait till it fails. The 2.0t's are very reliable cars in my opinion, very well engineered and not horrible to work on either. I owned a 00 a6 2.7t and it was a nightmare, underthe hood was soo jam packed that you couldnt do anything without just tearing **** apart and since I had almost 100k miles on it, things were starting to fail left and right. I love my car, as long as u treat it well with all of its recommended maintenance, it'll treat u well. Not to mention its a very moddable car and u can make it pretttty damn quick for relatively cheap. If you do buy it, just become a dedicated member to the audi forums and community and learn as much as u can and you will be just fine. It sounds like its a pretty new car and i'm sure it'll treat u well.
I agree with makav3li. I have an '08 A4 2.0T and love it. Sadly couldn't afford the quattro or S-line, but still with FWD, it's very fun to drive. Surprisingly quick IMO, given the relatively heavy weight and lower power than the Infinity G35 or BMW 328i. I drove both those before the A4, and even at 50-60 less HP than the Infinity and BMW, I knew the A4 was for me.
I actually think the sticky about fixes is encouraging because the few things listed are easy to fix (DIY-able in most cases) and the parts are very inexpensive. I replaced the DV (diverter value) with the updated Revision D, as explained in the sticky, and it's all true. The part is about $80 shipped and you can get to it quite easily from underneath the car. And once that's done, it's fixed.
I haven't done the PCV revamp yet (afraid it may void my warranty) but I've got the part ready, also pretty cheap at $100.
That leaves the most important of the three main things listed - the Cam follower. I haven't replaced mine yet (am only at 23K miles, and under warranty anyway), but again, at less than $100 for the part and it being very accessible (check the DIY on replacing it), this seems like a GOOD thing to me. Granted, I got out of a 2003 VW Passat with the W8 engine whose main fault was a cam adjustor design flaw that according to VW could only be fixed by a $7K engine rebuilt.
Bottom line - the 2.0T gets Better Than Average (4 of 5 stars) for Overall Reliability from Consumer Reports (only Hondas and Toyotas get 5/5); it's been in high production for many years; it's won many industry awards; and it a beautiful and fun to drive car.
Get it. You'll love it. (Oh, and the armrest latch breaks way to easily. So expect that too.)

The 2.0t quattro is a great car. I have had mine for a year, and put about 20,000 miles on it. I had a couple of small non engine related warrenty work issues, but they did not effect the cars performance, more just minor annoyances. My homelink got water in it shorting it, a small spring that holds the rear cargo deck down broke and rattled, and the glove box resisted opening and closing. The glove box is a known problems, so there was a fix available. The quatto in the winter snow is absolutely great, and gas mileage when compared to any mid or large SUV is really good. The car is also really quick. Just follow the maintanence schedules. My car was feeling sluggish, when I took in in for the 55,000 mile service, and when I got it back, it was hard to believe it was the same car. I must have had gunked up spark plugs, or a plugged air cleaner. Replacing those items made a big difference. I was starting to be concerened about a bad cam follower, or bad DV.
