Default 1st gear slipping?

Just got a 2005.5 A4 base model 2.0T. My first gear is super spuddery like it's slipping every single time I take off? The car has 63k on it (automatic tranny). If I put on the ESP it doesn't do this but I dont want to have to use ESP everytime. What's wrong with my car? I just brought it and I think I have a 3 month warranty on it, will this be covered? What should I do?

I think you have ESP backwards. It's always on. When you push the button and the light comes on in the instrument panel, you've turned ESP off.

What does it do when you shift it manually? Mine can be a little finicky in 1st and I've wondered what it is, but I don't think it's the transmission because if I shift it manually, it's fine. I think it's something in the shift program in the ECU that does it.

Yes, if you push the ESP button and the light located on the dash comes on, you have turned it off. is this A4 a quattro or front wheel drive? If it is front drive, you have the CVT transmission. the CVT behaves differently than a traditional automatic, and you just might not be use to it yet. The loaner I had was a CVT automatic, and it did take some getting use to. If you do have the CVT, there is a TSB with a software update to resolve some drivablility problems. You car might not have received the update. That is the nice thing about owning a manual tranny, there is no software, and less components to fail.
