2.0 liter and engine vibration
Hey Guys
New to the forum and audi ownership
I have an 06 avant with the 2.0 liter engine, tiptronic
When idling the engine has a slight vibration you can actually see and feel on the steering wheel
Kinda loud when you are outside, almost sounds like a real quiet diesel engine.
One more thing
Drives beautifully, but when coming to a stop it feels a little harsh when she shifts down from 3rd to second
Not sure if this could be tied to the engine and the rough idle
Can anyone else with the same vehicle confirm that their engine is nice and smooth with no vibration when at a stop and when coming to a stop is it a nice fluid transmission shift
thanks in advance
cheers

Hey waverider, welcome. Are you using premium fuel? I'd suggest gas from a top tier distributer. google up top tier gas to find out more.
Most 4 bangers aren't as smooth as a 6+ cylinder engine, when it comes to the idle roughness too. they aren't as balanced.

Thanks for the reply guys
Yes I do use one of the gasoline retailers on the list providing top tier gas
It just seems that a premium automobile should not have a smoother
sounding engine -- but as I said it runs great and very responsive
Just kind of unusual for that bit of vibration
cheers

The first day I brought mine home I had to search YouTube to be sure that it sounded right. I kept looking around for the diesel truck parked behind me...
I don't even notice it now, and its smooth as can be when driving. I really don't notice any vibration in the wheel or shifter while at idle. I see people mention this but its not the case for me. I guess its normal?

I test drove a 2009 GTi before I bought my 2006 A4 2.0T with the CVT. I think it has to do with transmission. Maybe the DSG manages to smooth out the roughness of this engine. I only experience the roughness when I back out and turning or when I initially let go of the gas after stopping at a light for a long time. But this only happens when the engine is cold. Otherwise great engine!
Same problem, same car. I was going nuts when i first bought my car because i was used to a V8 and never had any vibration. After multiple complaints to the Audi service dept, they broke down and performed a complete engine clean, cam removal and realignment, removed the valve cover and cleaned it out, rocker removal and replace, cleaned the injectors, checked the fuel delivery system and did a compression check (to their credit they were great with cust service). It did help quite a bit, but my car is still by no means smooth. Im used to not knowing the car is even running, so its taking some getting used too, but i guess that what one has to deal with for squeezing 200HP out of a 2.0. I love everthing else about the car so i try not to think about it.
