Question 2.0T - Adding a quart of oil every 1k miles is normal?

I have an '07 with the 2.0 turbo, just bought CPO a couple months ago.

After about 1k miles the low oil light came on. I was suprised since we only just got the car a few weeks before and the service tech said that the turbo had a very high tolerance and that this was normal.

I have since added 2 more quarts at approx 1k mile gaps.

I wanted to know if anyone else had this same issue or if they were selling me a bunch of crap.

Thanks

That is obviously not normal. Demand they resolve the issue, and stick to your guns. This is something they'd rather have you dump a quart of oil in the motor every 1000 miles than fix.

absolutely abnormal. i also have a 07 cpo with 23k miles when i bought it. now i'm at 30k miles, did a 5k service last month without adding any oil.. i check my oil level every week and it hasnt dropped a bit. but 1 qtz per 1k mile is extreme.

Although it absolutely sucks, Audi claims that up to a quart every 1000 miles is acceptable. If you want to bring it up, you can, but don't be surprised when they don't budge. There are many A4's out there that burn oil, and some that don't.

Thanks - that is definitely the position they are taking. But it helps to know that some do and some don't. I'll see what I can do.

Default Can anyone tell me if this is "fixable"?

Before I pay for an "audi expert" does anyone know if this is something that can be fixed?

Clearly my resale value will be less compared to a car that does not have this issue. I need to try and determine what percentage actually are like mine vs not.

Thanks again for your replies.

I have read that the magic amount is 1 quart every 1000 miles. If a car consumes more than that, then Audi has given dealerships the go ahead to work on the engine. The cause, in many cases, is bad rings. The rings provide the seal between the combustion side of the pistons and the lubrication side. If the rings are faulty, then oil leaks past and burns up with the gas.

More can be read about it on other forums. I would suggest audizine.com and audiworld.com.

Audi says its normal. In real world its not. When I was buying my car, I was completely aware of this issue with 2.0t but I figured I can deal with this.

The good thing is that my car does not seem to have this problem. I change oil every 5k and I dont need to add any oil before that.

When I purchased my 07 new the first 5tmls did burn a bit of oil (3/4 Liter). Now at 24200 miles I check it every two weeks to a month and add a little if necessary. I have also read it depends on how the car is driven. If you punch it alot and keep the RPM's high, turbo's will burn more oil. I keep it fairly steady on the German Autobahn's, average around 80-95mph.
