Thought I'd mention I just had this service done after getting a letter from Audi saying the three parts in question were covered to 120,000 miles on my 2007.

I had been getting an intermittent CEL and fuel cutoff after spirited driving. Could not get the CEL to turn on at the dealership, but I had gotten a reading from it saying it was the HPFP.

Told the dealer this, they took it in, pulled the cam follower and it was shot. They replaced all three parts, took about three days. Never any questions asked. The '11 Q5 they gave me as a loaner was amazing =).

Couldn't have been a more painless experience.

Is there a DIY for our cars, 'banjo bolt' included?

Hi guys, 06 a4 quattro here, about 95k miles. Just bought it about 4 months ago and meant to check follower at the same time as doing timing belt service once the weather got warm in NY. May have waited too long, i popped codes P0087 P2293 and a P000? and lost and power after 2k rpms. Limped it home and it started to squeal, I had just washed it so I thought I got a coil/belt something wet. Dried it out and same thing. What mileage was Audi covering this up to if it does end up being the follower/cam? Does the timing belt come off during that job? (thinking I can buy a belt and save myself the hassle) I havent touched it yet as I dont want to void any chance at a possible warranty, so Im going to call them in the am and ask. Any input would be great guys, thanks a lot

I think it's 100K or 120K miles, I don't remember which.

10yrs or 120k.

If it's the 2.0t, the fuel pump is right on top towards the back of the block so timing belt does not come off during that. Not sure about the 3.2

Update: Shop says extensive damage to head due to follower wearing through/breaking apart. Head covered under warranty (I had 94k miles) Having them install new timing belt/waterpump. for an additional 590$. Seemed a little high for labor as the full kit was 295$ online but I decided 295$ was worth me not having to take it apart again later. To those folks above 120K miles and havent checked it, get on it asap. Major damage is not cheap if you are out of the warranty!

Default engine failure

my son just purchased an 06 a4 quattro 2.0 turbo wed night. Got 90000 miles on it, paid 13500. he took it to work in syr thursday and on the way back it quit running. called the dealer and had it towed back, they checked it out last night and today said the cam follower broke and took the exhaust chain with it, tonight being taken to audi in syr who said they would look at it and replace the motor if repairs can't be done...
also have another issue with the steering column,, has anyone ever been able to turn the key a complete 180 degrees without starting the motor and remove the key again from that position?????
the key is very hard to turn and was told in almost all audi's you have to "giggle" the steering wheel to unlock the thing so the key will turn,,,,is this true??
