Default 2005.5 A4 2.0T surging

Hi. I'm considering buying a 2005.5 A4 2.0T 6-speed sedan and I have a few questions.

I've test driven a few B7 A4s so far, but I noticed something new when driving the last one. When letting off the gas and pushing in the clutch, the engine will "surge" slightly. I'm just wondering if this is normal or if it's something I should have checked out by a mechanic before buying? This will be my first turbo car, so I'm not sure what's normal.

What other issues are common to this year and model that I should keep an eye out for?

I'm torn between a Subaru Impreza and an A4. Obviously the A4 is a better car in almost every respect. The only thing I'm concerned about is reliability. The B7 A4s are apparently a lot more reliable than the older Audis, but they're still not ranked all that well when compared to the Subaru. So what's the real deal, are the newer A4s reliable or will I spend all my time and money at a shop?

Thanks for any input.

Not sure on the surging but it could be a DV or PCV issue. I have found these engines to be super reliable and have had next to nothing go bad. I have 80,000 problem free miles on my A4 and 30,000 on my GTI with the same motor (had the coil packs done).

Read my sticky above for all the qwirks on these cars. There are a couple preventitive items under $100 that will save you some grief and Coil Packs which are free under the recall.

Lots of info up top.

Try letting off the gas sooner before you hit the clutch. My A4's cluch disengagement point is almost at the top of the peddle travel, if you don't let up on the gas somewhat sooner, the engine will rev slightly because you still have your foot on the gas after the clutch has been disengaged. My Jetta's clutch hit the disengagement point just off the floor, so i could release the gas a little later when shifting without the engine trying to rev since the gas was most of the way up when the clutch hit the floor and the disengagement point. It took some getting use to switching between cars. Hope this helps.
