Default 2008 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro Ignition problem

So I am in afghanistan right now and i got a 2008 A4 2.0T Quattro.

My wife is claiming that the car is not starting some times. SHe can turn the key and nothing happens. She said the steering wheel is not locked and she cant seem to figure out why it doesn't start some times. After awhile it will eventually start but during the period where it doesn't there isn't any sounds or anything.

ANy ideas on what might be wrong with it?

Is it an auto? In a previous car I would sometimes have to turn the key and then wiggle or move the shifter in and out of park to get it to start (mainly when I was parked on a hill).

Next time it happens have her check if the radio will turn on or any other switched electronics. If not then it is most likely the ignition switch.

Oh, and keep your head down for 5 more weeks!

I do not know what it would cost. I thought I heard the switch is pretty expensive ($300 comes to mind for some reason). Someone else here might have a better idea.
