2008 Audi Questions
Just got a near new 2008 Audi A4 Quattro 3.2 convertible. I had plenty of MB's before, but while getting my MB washed at the dealer I saw this car on their used car lot with 2,700 miles on the clock, I had to have it. I've moderated a forum like this for my MB, so plenty of experience with forums and I'm sure this forum will help me enjoy my first Audi for years to come.
I had some things I just couldn't get to work. I did read the manual and I did search the forum, and that did help with some issues, but these are still on my mind.
1. On our first trip, we drove 700 miles over the weekend and after you drive for 2 hours it says 2:00h on the dash. Why does this pop up and why after to hours and not 3, 4, 5 hours? Anyway to disable it?
2. I tried 2 iPod, a Touch and a Classic and neither work with the iPod kit. They insert into the connector and it's supposed to autoplay according to the manual but nothing. So I press CD twice and it does show CD's 7-12, and if you press one, it does show a track playing, but no sound comes out of the dash.
3. the manual refers to an AUX jack in the center console. I looked all over and I can find no such beast. I was hoping to use that since I couldn't get the iPod interface to work.
4. is there any mod to make the roof go up/down with single touch. I did this on my kid's MB SLK so curious of someone does this for Audi
5. what does the center bumper insert without a license plate bracket cost? I saw carbon fiber ones on ebay, not sure I want carbon fiber there and make that stand out, just factory grey would be great.
6. Audi extended warranty, worth it? I'm able to do simple things like change a sensor (O2, MAF, etc.), so it would be for major stuff. How do these cars hold up over time? It's about $2K for a 6yr warranty as of now, but there's about 18 months left on the factory warranty.
7. I see that people with the 2.0 complain about oil usage, does the 3.2 have the same problem?
8. I use the rocker button at the tip of the windshield washer to switch displays from mpg, miles, etc. How do I reset the average mpg? I tried holding it in for 2 seconds like manual says but it stays at 18mpg.

As for the MPG display, there should be two settings. One shows average MPG for that trip and resets after two hours of non use, the other continues to calculate average MPG until you reset it, or 10,000 miles. Use the button on the bottom of the wiper stalk to switch between the two different MPG settings. To reset the MPG display push and hold that bottom button, not the toggle switch. I am guessing that this car is not an Audi certified CPO. Many people will only buy CPO Audi's because of the 100,000 mile warrenty. When I checked into it, I found out that the CPO desigation only added about $1000 to the price of my car vs the same without being a CPO. After the expensive reliabiliy headache of my Jetta, there was no way I would ever get a non CPO car.
Welcome!
1) This is to tell you that you've been driving for two hours and should take a break. Just ignore it. :P
4) Look up smartTOP. For about $300, you get one touch up/down, while driving up to 35 MPH, and operate it from the key fob.
5) Check out ECSTuning.com for a lot of grille options.

welcome and congrats.
yes, the 2:00 h flash is annoying. i don't know how to disable it. i just toggle out of it.
look for the auxilliary jack inside of the armrest.
as for the warranty, i've had no problems. if yours is a 2008, there should be more than 18 months of warranty left. i bought into the audi care and when it's time to decide on extended care...i think i might get it.
i have no oil consumption issues.

#2: I have to select CD #12 to listen to my ipod (classic 80gb). My car came with the ipod dock in the gove box.
#7: There are other threads about this. The 2.0 turbo runs hot, and will burn some oil. I haven't heard of 3.2 owners complaining about the problem.

have a 3.2 and no oil issues what so ever..
i've kept my display at the mpg only.. would scroll through every now and again...
ipod controller.. i read another post about a "dice" connector or something to that effect that allows you to bypass the regular interface and control music play through the actual ipod device... i'm still trying to get info on that..
