Default 3.2 or 2.0? HELP PLZ!

I am pretty new to audi, and I dont know much about anything, so any information would be greatly helped.

First off, I was looking at the s4's for a while but decided that they were too expensive, and my buddy got one so I cant get one.

I am looking to spend between 20-25grand, hopefully a 06 or 07 if that is possible. First off, what are the differences between the 06 and 07 models. Next, between the 3.2 and the 2.0, which to get? I know the 3.2 is quattro, but I live in North Carolina, so no snow and only a little rain for me. The 2.0 is turbo'd, which I like, but between the two, for the price, which is better? I know you can upgrade the 2.0s really easily and get them to haul, but I am a little lost. Thanks in advance for the help!

Both the '06 & '07 are B7 chassis. 3.2 is smoother and heavier, 2.0T is lighter and a more radical engine. Since A4's have a significant engine overhang (to the extent that Audi reduced it in the B8), less weight is more agile. I came from a 2.8 B5 (99.5) to a 2.0T B7 and the four banger is MUCH less smooth, but I want to mod a bit forHP gains. The 2.0T can be enhanced in multiple steps which range from cheap to "you're going to need a sugar daddy/mommy". The only thing I'm aware of for the 3.2 is a $5K supercharger kit, but I hear they scream.
Why do you even consider a FWD A4? The quattro system is one of my primary reasons for owning an Audi. Ever spin a tire under acceleration? A quattro is hard pressed to spin its tires, evenon a dirt road, and if the tires aren't spinning up, you're accelerating. Unless burn outs are the goal, quattro will do things that never fail to impress. Now give a car a 50% HP gain, if it spun the tires before, it will surely spin them with more HP, but the quattro will still put the power to the ground. While instantly obvious in the snow and ice, the traction benefits in the rain are also quite noticable, especially in the corners. I've run away from Vettes in the rain before, knowing that if it were dry I couldn't keep up (nice feeling).
I would opt for the 2.0T quattro, with other options as you feel neccessary.

First thing get Quattor. that is one of the best things about audi. Its good for every season.

Second Ask yourself do I want to mod it to make it faster or am I just buying a car and thats it. IF you want to mod it than the 2.0 is what you want. The 2.0T becuase quicker/faster than the 3.2 with just a few modifications all under $1000.

Third ask yourself how important is gas mileage. the 2.0T will have better mpg than the 3.2T

Fourth how important is the exhuast note. If you don't care to mod, and don't care about mpg as much, but care about your car sounding "meaner" get the 3.2. the exhuast not from the V6 is very nice with the stock exhaust system.

Also the 3.2 is slightly more rare than the 2.0T

hope this helps, both nice cars.

Awsome info thanks. I did a lot of research today and have definately decided on the 2.0t Quattro, even though I said before I live in North Carolina, I will be moving back to Colorado in about 2 years and will still have it, so that should be awsome.

A few other questions: 1: I read about the chip, GIAC and REVO and such I have been reading about, ~400-500, which is fine by me. However, do they void the warranties? All mybuddies with BMW's who chipped their 335s were all guarenteed it not to be voided, but it ended up anyways. Also, with a chip, is that a standalone upgrade, or do I need to add anything extra with it? 2: What about turbo upgrades? I read in the newbie guide that the k04 upgrade to an 06 would barely give it anymore Hp/tq, so if that is so, what is out there that is fairly simple in the mid range in terms of expense that gives a good gain? 3: Finally, I have been looking at Carmax, Autotrader, tons of other sites, and there seems to be a huge range of prices. It seems that, with high mileage or low mileage, the cars are ranging between 22-27ish, and I have found some at the 22-23 range better equiped and with less mileage than the higher range. I know this comes with shopping around, but is there any hidden issue or something about a4's that I am missing? Thanks alot again for your help! I look forward to smoking my buddies z4, but itll take a bit to get my other buddies cayman s

The 3.2 is only a little more heavier than the 2.0 but if you wanna keep up with your buddy's S4 you will need a 2.0. With a chip and exhaust you wont be beating him in any races but you sure as hell wont get smoked.

the chip will only void warenty if it is the part that causes the issue. If you get the car chipped you are going to need a new DV, the OEM one will crack after a month or two from the stress.

I have the 2.0 quattro with the REVO software upgrade. I have not modified anything else like a fuel pump or diverter valve. My car has never had any mechanical problems of any sort and I've had the software for over a year : ) 2.0 all the way!

I just bought a 2006 Audi A4 Quattro and I am very impressed with the stock ability of the car. Down the road I will probably chip it and if you can get a pre-owned certified like I did, you get the 6 year 100k mile warranty at no added cost. I lucked out too, the previous owner of my Audi bought it on 12-31-05, so that is when the start date on my warranty started, so i have a whole year plus to go. I am doing my first big road trip in it next week and I plan to see what it can do while I skirt across Nevada. It should be fun. They are right too, I am super impressed with the Quattro, I tried to spin out in dirt on the side of the road, nope it wouldn't happen. I call the Audi "Tro." I have a habit of naming all my cars/trucks and Tro seemed fitting, it might be a little gay, but like ships, it is best to name them for good luck.
