Default Another P0299 and P0442 story

Hi! I'm new to the world of Audi's and definitely new to this forum. I would just like to share a bit of problem i'm having with my car and what i have done and plan to do so far. Hopefully somebody can guide me if im doing this right.

I'm getting these 2 codes for more than 2 months already. Smoke test was previously done by a local shop and it revealed nothing. Shop owner suggested that it may be the pump that runs the leak test that may actually be the one leaking. He wants to replace it. I said we'll worry about it after we deal with the other code (299).

I know that the 299 code is probably caused by a bad diverter valve (car has 93k on it and still has the orig dv). So replacing the dv should be a good next step.

I would clear the codes and after a few weeks time, 442 will come back and 299 will return when i go WOT. I would then clear the codes again. Car also has a few other symptoms like hard starts after a fuel fill up and slight shuddering when making turns while stopped.

I decided to give the purge valve a check yesterday and found it was clicking ok but was stuck open.

The cheapest purge valve i can find was actually from the local audi dealer here. I got it for $26. Online, i think it goes for $79+. So i replaced the bad purge valve today and immediately noticed that the engine idles smoother and the shuddering when making turns is gone.

442 code still hasnt come back and im praying it wont.

Next step is to deal with the dv. I plan on replacing it myself but i dont have a place to work with the car. Im still looking for a diy garage nearby.

Replacing the DV does sound like a good next step.

My stickey up top says DV and PCV should be fixed before they fail. I say it all too often. Simple to swap the DV, drive up on ramps and it only takes 15-20 mins. You could do it in a parking lot if you can't do it at home.

Agree 100% with this series of statements. I did my DV (30 min total - i'm slow I guess) and clutch switch (cruise wasn't working but is now!). Both are very easy and space requirements are minimal.

PCV is on the short list as well.

Thanks for your replies... Reading the threads here gave me enough confidence that I can replace the DV myself.

will update this thread soon.
