Default Engine revs when depressing clutch

Howdy,

Recently purchased a 2008 A4 Avant 2.0T Quattro, 6 speed with 38,700 miles. When depressing the clutch to upshift, the engine RPMs race up a few hundred. Been driving manuals for over 25 years and this is the first one that's done this. My foot on the accelerator isn't the problem. Thinking it could be a throttle sensor. Taking the car with the mechanic in a few days. Any other suggestions for him to check?

Thanks,
CG

Mine does that too. The clutch engagement/disengagement point is at the top of the peddle travel. You may have to readjust you peddle/shift pattern. I came from a Jetta and the engagement/disengagement point was almost to the floor. It took a while to get use to the Audi, since the engagement/disengagement point was at the opposite end of the peddle travel. I had to get use to backing off the gas sooner before I hit the clutch, a major change from my Jetta. Everyone who drove both of my cars commented on the clutch difference. If you engine really starts racing, your clutch switch might be bad. When that failed my RPM's really jumped when I shifted. It also took out my cruise control.

B7 - thanks for the response and suggestions. I have adjusted my driving style to accommodate which has alleviated some instances of the run-up but not all. Funny you mention a Jetta as that was my interim car between Audis. The two are definitely different. CG

B7 - have your mechanic check the clutch position sensor if your A4 is still doing it. It's a warranty repair.
