I saw this problem on one other Audi I was considering and now have it on the one I just purchased, so I am hoping it is common enough that the answer is know. The ash tray cover in my console will not open all the way and while I won't use it for anything other than maybe loose change, it bugs the hell out of me that it won't open all the way. I'm assuming that something rolled behind the mechanism, but don't know for sure. Anybody know how to remedy this problem?
No, nobody has made any suggestions.

Great information, Thanks. If I am going to go to all that trouble, I am definately taking the opportunity to perform the Sirius install you outlined. Thanks again.

Cool. All you need to do is remove trim around shift, then unbolt. 3 minutes top to do it.
True, but I still think it makes sense to put the Sirius radio in. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your thread about that. The car I was previously driving had Sirius and I miss it very much. I hadn't spoken with the dealership about what it would cost because I knew it would likely be outrageous. You've now saved me a TON of money. I certainly appreciate you taking the time to outline all the steps as well as the components necessary.

No problemo. You do not need to take out the stereo for that, everything should be already attached. I was so happy about the money I saved, I put in an iPod/iPhone dock. LOLOriginally Posted by NewEnglandB7Driver

Thanks for posting that vid TC. I've had the same not-opening-all-the-way issue since I bought the car. My local dealer told me it happens because people use the credit card drawer for change and when it gets too full it starts falling back behind the head unit and ends up right where the ash tray door opens. He also said you have to take the head unit, climate control and center console out to get to it, so I just never bothered and lived with it. After watching the vid, i just took the center console out and sure enough there was about $3 worth of change back there. Dumped it out and bam, fully operational ash tray door. + $3 profit to boot! Took all of 5 minutes. Thanks again!
