Audi A4 B7 40K $11,998 Advice.. Help please :]
So i found this incredible A4 with low miles for its age 40K!! its Gray, with 6 Speed Auto Quattro.
My question is: how reliable is this transmission? It seems to be an update from the ZF 5HP19. Im looking to replace my '02 A4 with CVT and its horrible shuddering problem. I just want a car that works
So far i've had:
2000 A6 that had a forward launching or slipping in lower 1-2 gears issue.
2002 A4 with the horrible CVT (RUN AWAY FROM THIS TRANNY)
I also have:
2000 New Beetle with 01M tranny running strong lol maybe because it was made by VW and not ZF.
From my research, this transmission 6HP19 is used in V8 models also upto 2009. From its torque handling capabilities this looks like a very solid transmission, i mean to handle the likes of an S6 and its power. The A4 im looking at is only a 2.0T. Just seems like a massive transmission. Most of what i could find are valve body problems..
Any input is appreciated, also any tips on the 2.0T engine. From my research ill probably do the fuel pump cam follower asap. Looks like a scary scenario. I really like this car, and its owner that took good care of it. Carfax shows 7 years of ownership and 40K miles and all service shows from the same dealer.
Last thing lol will an '08 trunk lid fit the '06 trunk without problems? I really want the built in spoiler.

I'm going to assume you mean the 6-speed auto? Only problem I've seen people complain about the 6-speed auto is that the torque converter is a bit weak. There is a thread you can read here that I've commented on (because I think mine is starting to develop this problem) where it doesn't lock up right and causes some subtle surging/pulsing at low throttle. I've not done anything about it, though, because it's not that bad in my case and I don't really have the $1500 for a new torque converter.
It's definitely much much better than the CVT. I wouldn't touch one of those--even with only 40k miles on it.

Thank you so much for the input. Yes, it is the 6 speed auto, with tiptronic. Exactly i agree, the cvt is the worst. The subtle surging reminds me of my old A6 2000 which at take off had a light hesitation but once that was past about 1500rpm everything was smooth as honey. Since this car im looking at has 40k i'll be babying it, with new oil and filter changes ofter. ECS tuning sells a great kit for about $260 with 8 quarts of fluid and filter etc.
Definitely sounds like a solid tranny if it can hold big V8 engines, i just really love the 2.0T and think its a nice upgrade from my 1.8T which i respect alot.
