Audi A4 B7 Weird A/C Issue
Let me start this off with saying I have a 2005.5 Audi A4 6-speed. roughly 185k miles. This car has had many issues with A/C over the years. Fixing, then another issue arises. A little over two years ago I found out I had a A/C leak at my pressure sensor. So I took off the bumper, replaced the whole sensor, and recharged/oiled the whole system. Air started working perfectly. Ice cold.
Fast forward to now. Air stopped working last fall/late summer. Threw it under the rug since It was about to be winter. Recently started tackling the issue. ECON light would stay on, blow warm air. Weirdly after a a few weeks, the ECON light wasnt on anymore, but still no AC. Found out my A/C condenser fan wasn't working (smaller fan passenger side). Figured I should replace the entire fan assembly, since it was original and 185k miles on it. As well as replace the fan control module just in case, and because I'm already there. I figured this was the only issue, as my air worked before this, and this was a blatant issue. I don't believe my compressor was engaging, but that would make sense, since the fan wasn't turning on, right? Well, I replaced the whole assembly and FCM via RockAuto, made sure everything is all plugged in and sorted. Start her up... and still no AC. ECON light is NOT on. Blowing warm air. A/C Condenser fan is spinning now, but still no A/C. Used one of those small A/C recharge gauges on the low side and it showed in the green. Checked all the A/C related fuses on the left side of the dash behind the panel, all are OK.
So what is the issue? Is their an A/C Relay somewhere that could have blown that I don't know about? I know their is a fan relay in the ECU box, because I already had the dreaded swimming pool in ECU box issue. All those relays were replaced, and everything was good. Does the fan relay in the ECU box only control the radiator fan, or both fans? If both, I can check to see if that relay oddly failed again, but that wouldn't make sense considering my A/C fan is working now after switching it.
Do I need the full VCDS to figure out my issue? I have an OBD connector that's unregistered that I can use VCDS Lite on, but can I check the correct measuring blocks with VCDS lite? Or do I need to pay the $100 registration to check those? If not, which block rows should I check? I'd assume the next step would be to make sure the compressor is engaging. What's the easiest way to do this?
If you have any questions, suggestions, or better yet, answers. Please write them down below. This car has been nothing but a maze when it comes to A/C the 8 years I've had it.
