Default A4 cooling fan not working? Help!!

Hi guys.

Hope i'm on the right thread here. Just joined after buying my first Audi yesterday. It's an Audi A4 1.8 Cabriolet (1998). Got it in really good condition with 97000 on the clock.

Every is ok apart from the radiator cooling fan not kicking in. We have found a relay in the glove box. Don't know where it's from and why it is there. Is there a relay that operates this fan? Could this be why.

The guy i know who knows more about cars than me (nothing!) says the fan moves freely when he turns it.

Help please!!

You should have 2 fans, one that is running all the time by the engine fan clutch, and the other is run electrically by the ac pressure switch. The one that is always running is actually for the radiator and the other in for the ac condenser..you will need to check the relay pertaining to the ac fan and see if its working.

Cheers Kev.

On the interior i can't see anything with Air Con, just normal fan dials. Looking at the spec for the A4 it says climate control, but i can't see it?

Is there anywhere on this forum that gives me a diagram for relays? Puzzling why there is this one in the glove box and can't find out any info on what relays there are other than under the bonnet, but like i say, don't know what they are too?
