For what it's worth, my '99 A4 didn't consume excess oil. Best car I ever owned.
So far so good with my '05 A4 Avant. Time will tell.
My '92 Jeep Cherokee on the other hand, consumes at least a quart a month or more,
due to a leaky rear seal which is common to that engine.
At least the Audis never peed oil onto the driveway like the Jeep does.

Hi All,
I am completely new to the forum and to Audi. Been driving a 2000 Civic and went and bought a A4 2.0T Quattro 2008 couple of days back.... So far no issues, but reading this thread, I am a bit concerned abt the burning oil. Will I get any warning light once the engine needs oil or should I keep an eye on the miles and change it myself every 3K or so. Because, the manual only refers to a oil change every 10K miles. My car currently has 36K miles. I dont want to screw up something though...any advise greatly appreciated.

thanks and looking forward to learning more here abt the A4)

LIGHTS ARE BAD. Keep an eye on the level every 3k at least.

I get mine changed every 5000 miles (not 10k). I haven't had to add oil between them yet. Just check the dipstick every so often when you gas up.

I have heard that the turbos do have the potential to burn oil as opposed to the naturally aspirated engines.. i also did some online research with regard to oil leaks from the turbo engines.. that's why i got the non turbo 6 cyc.. but i've also heard that even BMW recommends keeping a quart of oil with you just in case you need it.. that was for the 5 series and M cars...
