That's what happened to me this summer when my 2006 A4's original battery died. It happened suddenly. I could jump it, but after an hour and a half of driving, it would not start again. When the dealer looked at the battery, it had deteriorated to only putting out 160CA, far from the 600CA it should have been putting out.

Take it to an auto parts store and have them do a "load test" on the battery. They will be able to tell if you have a bad cell that is causing this problem. Do we assume that you don't have a "check engine light" registering?

ok so I took it to the store to do the battery test and it had a bad cell... I replaced the battery with a new one and everything was fine, I reprogrammed the key and I didn't drive it for a day... Today when I started the car everything was fine but the esp light was on, after a couple of mins I was able to turn it off but I'm not sure why it was on in the first place?

Also on another note, it might be unrelated because it happened before I changed the battery as well, but the air console does not respond right away... like for example when I want to increase the fan speed after I turned on the car, I have to wait a few mins before I can turn it up or down...

any thoughts? I have the audi extended warranty still left so I may take it in shortly but if these are easy fixes, I don't want to bother going there...

There are lots of little things that need reprogramming if you pull the battery completely on these Audis. If you're covered under warranty, take it in and have it all reprogrammed--don't know, though, they may still be able to charge you since a battery isn't a warranty item. I've heard you can avoid this if you use one of those cigarette lighter power bricks that you plug in while you're changing your battery, but I don't know for sure.

I'm just thankful that when I went to test drive mine, the battery was stone dead and they replaced it then. So, I have a brand new one that should last for a bit.

As for the ESP light coming on that is normal after a battery is replaced the car goes though a reset of some of its settings just drive the car down the block it should turn off or if not hit the ESP button on the dashboard.

My ESP light also came on after the battery died and needed to be jumped. It was fine after the battery was replaced. The big problem was the the fobs needed to be reprogramed. They were so messed up that the dealer could not get the car reprogrammed with out hooking it up to the computer. At least I wasn't charged.

From the description I would think the starter has gone out. Could also be the ignition switch, but if that went you should also not see the dask lights coming on. I am not sure if the solienod on the Audis is part of the starter or not. That is the part that tells the starter to start cranking when you turn the key.
