Default "breather valve" fix for oil consumption on 2.0T

Has anyone been told by a dealer that a new "breather valve" will fix oil consumption on a4 2.0T. My car is using 1 qt every 2000 miles. 2 months after they told me this, the valves finally came in (OH BOY)! I'll let you how it works out.

Good Luck. It will still eat oil. Some people have less oil eaters than others but it it just the engine.

It's amazing how these engines vary on oil consumption. Some use alot, others like mine, don't use any.

My "low oil" light tends to kick on right when I'm due for a change, so it kinda works out. I do wish that it didn't kick on at all, though.

Low oil light can mean it is too low. I was down 3 quarts once. Have no idea how it was running still.

That breather valve is just one reason for oil consumption. It just came in? My dealer stocks like 20 of these things.

And remember Audi spec for oil consumption is 1 qt for 1,000 miles is normal.

I know its stupid. For a 4 cylinder your practically doing an oil change every 5,000 miles. But thats what they say.

Also Audi's low oil light is at a higher spec than most brands... Basically they don't want you to be border line empty when you need to add oil. Audi accounts for the many many drivers that don't check their oil ever

Default Question on cracked valve

Would a cracked valve result in a squealing noise coming from the engine. I just had a audi service guy tell me that if I cant take off the oil cap while the engine is running I probably have a cracked oil regulator valve. I am not sure just know that a few days ago my vehicle started squealing and my mechanic has removed the AC belt and the engine is still making the noise. Anyone have a suggestion?

sounds like a faulty PCV. ask the mechanic to look at the PCV and breather hose.

I had an issue back in January with my '07 A4 Cab where I was burning oil in a bad way. Lost about a quart every 150 miles. The dealer fed me some BS about the breather valve and they replaced it. Turned out that they needed to do a consumption test on my car and then they found out that a couple of my piston rings were bad. Entire engine got rebuilt (thankfully it was under warranty).

If I may, the 2nd gen audi 2.0 will use oil not burn it the engine/turbo combo needs oil, we all know this but what many people overlook is that a piston moving downward creates a vacuum, now in conventional cars this is what sucks in air and fuel, now in a positive pressure system this is not the case. The old 2.7 turbo is a great example oil leaking king but reliable when you force air with a turbo or supercharger into an engine you have positive pressure. It will find a way out usually though exhaust valves or gaskets. By updating pisions in the 2.0 you will help oil consumption, but the trade off is friction, new pistons have more, bye bye fuel economy. Id rather add oil every 3000 miles, but since I service mine every 5000 I dont have an issue but I also understand how someone would buy a new car and feel like it should not use oil. Just food for thought.
