Buying a B7 after the most hurendus experiance with a B6
Buying a B7 after the most horrendous experience with a B6
I had a B6 FSI, with first a TCM problem, then water pump failing, timing belt shredded, all valves bent engine needs replacing (dont ask :/)
So now i want to get a B6
I wanted to know what i should be careful off (for example when buying a B6 the FSI engines were known to have a bad TCM which needed replacing)
Any signs of known or common defects i should be looking out for?
Is the TCM problem still there? or anything else?
Looking into
2006 Audi A4 Saloon 1984 cc 2.0 SE
Multitronic transmision, Saloon, Petrol, 27,500 miles

It's all in the sticky titled "Important facts to know." Most of it's minor or covered under warranty now (the cam follower/HPFP/cam issue). Some use oil, others don't. I would look for an '08 (unless you get a really good deal on an '06 or '07 like I did).
So its a standard 2.0 engine.
I am thinking of buying it directly from an Audi dealer because of mu previous experiance with my B6 they are giving 1 year warrenty
I didnt understand most of that post as im really really simple minded when it comes to cars. And hardly understand it.
Should i ask them to change some things if i decide to buy? if so what would it be, i just know some names of things that needs to be changed PCV, Cam Follower. But i dont understand wat u mean by HPFP and cam issue
Maybe you're talking about something available outside the US that I'm ignorant of. Here, we have the 2.0T (turbo-charged, 2.0L FSI 4-cylinder) and the 3.2L 6-cylinder. A 2.0L engine without the turbo would be absolutely gutless in this car (I know, I drove mine like that for about a week when my diverter valve broke).
HPFP = high-pressure fuel pump (which is related to Audi's FSI system)
If you're against the 2.0T engine, then that leaves you with the 3.2L option of which I am not well-versed, so others can chime in. Personally, I have the 2.0T and love it.

In UK as a 23 year old my insurance company will not insure me on any Turbo cars.
I guess 3.2L will drink a lot of petrol and will be expensive on repairs and servicing so im told by garages.
Should i be staying away from FSI or Multitronic or Tiptronic or CVT or TDI?
Ever since my B6 I feel i should stay away from all those acronyms as they now for me mean different type of engine, more complex problems = more expensive repairs.
You say without a turbo its a gutless care but im not really going to be driving it like im racing it or wanting to go from 0-60 in a certain amount of seconds.
I used to be Benz with a C180 it was in the family for years without any major problems till it was stolen and damaged beyond repairs.
We turned to Audi after that bad experience with B6
but mum like audi the audi and wants to give it another chance.
We looking for a Audi that’s cheap to run and doesn’t mean your wallet bleed when it comes to repairs. And im starting to feel that more acronyms that come along with the car the more the garages can charge you.
However im here to learn so i can make the safe and right decision.
