There's two ways to tell if it's bad. First being your engine gets screwed up. That's the expensive way to tell, but I think Audi extended the warranty on that part to 110K or something like that. The second is physically checking it yourself, it's not difficult at all. Beings your car has 95K miles on it, I'd be very scared of the shape that it's in if it's never been changed before.

The cam follower is a tiny piece that acts as the wear point between the fuel pump and the cam (fuel pump runs off the cam). On these engines, over time that wear film on the cam follower will wear out and will grind a hole in the cam follower, leaving nothing in between the cam and the fuel pump which will result in scarring and failing of the cam and other parts. Not to mention metal shavings throughout your engine now. For the ones who have failed, I think they needed a new head and cam. If you are even a little mechanically inclined you can check this yourself. There should be threads on here that are step by step, or do a search on the internet on how to change them. I think I changed mine in 30 mins from start to finish. The cam follower itself is only $60 from the dealer so it's pretty cheap insurance. I'd look into replacing yours asap.

There are a few threads that show with pictures how to replace the follower. Also go to Audiworld. They have threads on it too. My car only stumbled at idle for a second a couple times within a month of my follower going at 108,000 miles. You do want to check into having it looked at before the 120,000 mile warranty. When Mine went it was catastrophic. I lost the fuel pump, follower, intake cam, exhaust cam and the entire head. Thankfully Audi ate the whole thing, and I was covered. The repairs were close if not more than half the remaining value of my 06 quattro.
