I have '06 A4 cvt FWD 2.0L sedan. The cruise control started working intermittantly and now hardly ever. Also, the engine used to rev to assist downhill braking but that rarely happens anymore. Do you think they may be related. I don't know how either works. Any ideas where they should look, how to fix, how much it'll cost.

It's possible the stuff might be related. On my manual transmission A4, my clutch cruise control kill switch went out and caused the cruise to quit working, and the engine to start revving when I shifted. Who know's maybe the cruise control kill switch on your brake peddle is malfunctioning causing something similar with the cruise and engine rpm management.
