Default diverter valve woes

Hey everyone. I've been wanting to replace my Diverter valve ever since I bought the car a year ago, but its very hard to get that valve from under the car. More specifically the top hex bolt on it (at least for me). I simply can't get enough throw on that top bolt to loosen it up. I've read the DIY on it. I'm wondering, is there a way to change it from the top of the engine looking down on it? Looking at it, Id have to take the air filter tubing out and possibly get to it that way, but honestly I can't see it when trying to look down at it. I really want to change it but it's besting me right now. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Also, no there is no check engine light on for it, I just want to put the updated diverter valve in it for assurance. Thanks!

Awesome, thanks for the advice everyone. 80 some of you have read my question but not one person answered it. This forum offers very little help even for the simplest question.

Your welcome! Just kidding. I had the same issue you are having. My anwser was to have the shop replace it when I had the oil changed. Cost me $75 in labor. I tried, but just couldn't figure out how to replace the damn thing with the tools I had available.

Wow, that's a great way to endear yourself to the community here and get the answers you need.

I had my mechanic do it and he didn't seem to have any trouble since he only charged me $20. I wasn't going to bother posting that since it didn't really help, but since you demand replies, there you go. You must just be doing it wrong.

I'm not demanding replies. I'm trying to get help on an issue I'm having from people who have likely dealt with it before, such as yourself. Mechanics have a thing called lifts that they put the car to make it easier to work underneath it. Lifts don't require you to be gumby when working on it. All I have are car ramps that don't give you much more clearance underneath the car and it requires you to be gumby in some cases. I am not gumby. I don't have a lift. I just simply wanted to know if any of you discovered an easier way to do this job. Even if your reply is you took it to the mechanic to let them deal with it, that's a sign to me that people possibly had the same trouble as me. I guess I'll try to MacGyver an easier way and if I can't get it done, then the mechanic will be my answer. Thank you very much for your input on the issue, even if you weren't going to reply. It was pretty painless wasn't it?

In regards to endearing myself, this is a forum where people come to ask questions about issues they're having. When you get a bunch of people reading your post and not one replies, it gets frustrating. Even the simplest answer is great. I'm not trying to be an A-hole, I just wish there was more involvement is all. I like this forum. It has provided decent insight to issues I've searched for on here before. I'd of never found out about this diverter valve, cam follower, or the N80 valve etc if I wouldn't of been searching here.

It's a slow forum. I've just come to accept that. I wish it were more active, but I can't do anything about it. Generally, if I don't have much to add, I will just wait until someone who does comes along rather than steering someone down the wrong path.

When our cars were newer, the forum saw more activity. I've noticed as our cars have aged, the traffic has slowed some.

Yeah, this happens. Even the Jeep forum I go to that used to be impossible to keep up with has slowed dramatically now that the last model year of that era Jeep is almost 10 years old.

There is still a HUGE wealth of information here (especially when you search it out) that I'm immensely thankful for.
