Default Do I have a European model?

Ok, so I have a 2007 A4 B7 FWD A/T and i have been looking at performance parts and mods in order to come up with a solid game plan. Everything Ive found talks about the 6 speed tiptronic or the CVT trans, but here is the kicker I have a seven speed. The shifter display clearly states 7 speed, the manual shift mode allows me to shift through all seven gears and even in full auto I can clearly feel each shift so I know its not the CVT. After hours of research I discovered that only the European model came with the 7 speed dual dry clutch in this year. Does anyone know anything about this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If I'm not mistaken, the CVT is designed so that in manual mode it mimics 7 fixed gears. It is still a CVT but mimics a geared tranny in that mode. Put it in sport mode, or "S", and nail the throttle. If the RPM's rise instantly and stay, it's the CVT. In normal drive mode, the CVT also mimics a regular tranny in that the RPM's build slower instead of spiking instantly. Apparently customers hated the typical behavior of a CVT so Audi modified it a little preventing the instant spike in RPM that is typical of CVT tranny's.

Don't feel bad, I drove a fwd CVT loaner for two days, and was also fooled into thinking it was a traditional tranny and not a CVT. It doesn't behave like the traditional CVT. By the way if your car starts to run a little rough below 20 to 25 mph for a brief few seconds when coming to a stop, it needs a software flash. Audi recalibrated the software to get rid of this little vibration. It's not much, but you can just notice it. It's almost like if you forget to hit the cluch when stopping, and cause the engine to lug and start running rough. There is a TSB about it, so the dealer should be able to look it up and get the fix.

Ok so today i put it to the test and did several runs in each of the three modes with the petal to the metal. In every mode there are definitive shifts, lull in acceleration, RPM change and lung into the next gear. Even in S mode. Does anyone know the vin codes that would tell me for certain?

I tried searching on line and came up with a vin decoder that told me this.

Decoded Audi VIN Results

VIN: WAUAF78E77A107138
Digit(s) Parameter Code(s) Meaning
1-2 Country WA Germany
3 Manufacturer U Audi
4-6 Blanks AF7 Only used on USA VINs.
7-8 Vehicle Type 8E B6 Platform, Audi A4 Saloon & Avant including quattro variants, Audi S4 and A4/S4 Cabrio, 2001 - ....
9 Check/Blank 7 -
10 Model Year 7 2007 !
11 Factory A Built in Ingolstadt, Germany
12-17 Chassis Number 107138 Serial Number 107138

Do you think a dealership would be able to tell me for sure? if not who can I call? I want to avoid finding out the differences the hard way when I start ordering parts if it is imported.

Thank you for all you help.

Yours is a CVT, it's coded in etka as a trans code JTT, and final drive as SA, for shiftless automatic.
