Finally got my B7! (Pics ;) )
stupid question: i finally ordered the led light kit from krautoparts but im confused about the box with the red wires. i tried emailing but they are having site problems. can you tell me what its for and how to install it?
Box with red wires? I didn't have anything like that in my kit- granted mine was semi-customized due to already having the plate lights; thus the only thing that immediately comes to mind is that maybe this box you speak of has something to do with that? Could you maybe post a pic and I'll see if its anything I've seen before that I might be able to shed more light on? Cuz yea, all I got was a bubble wrap envelope full of bulbs- no boxes or wires or anything like that...
I got the interior kit only. I kinda assumed it was for the license plate lights so it doesn't throw a code but I'm still not sure how to put it on. When you did your plate lights did you have to do somethin like that? Ill put up a pic when I get on my compy later.
Yep, that's a resistor. And yes it is for the plate bulbs. The thing is, I can't help you with that one. I have no idea how to wire that in there, unfortunately. It is to keep the CANBUS happy and error free, but I didn't have to wire one when I did mine. I got my plate bulbs off eBay (hence mentioning that my order from krautoparts was semi custom due to already having the plate bulbs) that were not *just* bulbs but a full rebuild of the entire bulb assembly- lens and all- that had the resistor built into them already so that they were plug n' play and error free right out of the box. Sure they were a little more costly between it being a whole new bulb assembly plus already wired to be error free, but it was absolutely worth it to avoid having to muck about with wiring to trick the system into thinking everything was okay. I'm pretty sure I've seen in passing a writeup or two about how to wire that resistor in there so I'm sure if you just googled it you could come up with something
yea so i had some more issues lol
i put in the dome lights and those worked fine but for some reason the map lights wouldnt work at all. the vanity lights went crazy and started strobing too. did you have any issues like that? what year is your car? any special option i dont have? mine is a 2008 with the basic radio and red info display, tpms but no sat. radio, only driver power seat....
i talked with Emil and he said to try installing all of them and see if that fixes the strobing. any tricks you can think of?

Hmm interesting; no I haven't had any problems like that. The only thing similar that I have is that the map lights don't come on without the key turned- only a minor inconvenience as I can just flip the main switch for the dome light that controls if it comes on or not when a door is open and that'll light up all three at once which is more than enough light to see. My glovebox light doesn't work either, but I think that's a preexisting thing and not related to the LEDs- guessing a fuse or unplugged wire somewhere behind due to my lid only having one functional hinge and possibly having been messed with by the PO. But yea, other than that, I haven't had any issues at all- mine is a 2007 non s-line, symphony II+ radio (6 disc MP3/CD changer, sat radio), red DIS as well, no tpms, dual power seat, winter package, bi-xenon auto adjust headlights, homelink, bluetooth integration and rain sensor- though I don't see how having certain toys over others would affect the power delivery to the lights. Only thing I can think of to suggest trying is making sure the LED is fully inserted in the slot- I noticed that they can take some force to get all the way in, especially the map lights. I remember some frustration at getting those in, buttoning up the cover, pushing the button and having them come on for a couple seconds and then go off and then taking the cover back off to find that they hadn't seated fully and popped back out when I put the cover back on. The only other thing that comes to mind for the other bulbs- the one's that are flat, is to maybe try reversing it in the slot, like, however you've got it installed now, take it out, flip it over, and put it back in. I don't think there's a polarity specific with LEDs, but its worth a shot. Good luck
