Finished a brake job
Well I just tackled a front brake job on my kids 2007 Audi A4. I went with Akebono Euro ceramic pads. I was surprised at the size of the calipers and it's piston. It's a pretty beefy system and more robust then my old Ferrari's brakes. I found that removing the spring clip and reinstalling it was a trick. Once I figured that out it was pretty easy. Just need to remove 2 hex screws and spread the caliper a bit and the unit comes right off. Just cleaned everything up and lub'ed everything when I put it back together.Rotors looked good so I didn't need to either replace or turn them down. I measured the thickness but just need to find out what the spec. is. Just for info the yellow brake warning light came on around 700 miles ago and when I removed the pads one of the warning sensors came off in my hand. I had about a little less then 1/8 th material left. So I would say you can safely get 500miles before you need to replace them after the light comes on. I also checked the rears and it looks like they have maybe 1000 miles left on them. I have the new pads but will replace them around Christmas. I had to modify my piston tool so that I can retract the rear pistons. I'll see how that works in a few weeks. By the way it took 1 hour per wheel. 52,000 miles on these OEM pads
Just a follow up here. The front rotor thickness spec. for a 2007 A4 with 321MM rotors is 30MM new and 28MM minimum. These measured in at 29MM with 52,000 miles on them. They are the original rotors. I did not replace them nor resurface them. They looked in good shape. Run out was with in .05mm so my decision was not to replace them. Based on this mileage we will not own the car for the next brake replacement. FYI
