First Snow with my Audi A4
Had our first snow here in West Michigan tonight, and I took out my A4 for my first winter drive. WOW! I don't know how I got by without it. In a day or two the Lake Michigan lake effect snow machine will start, and I will get to see what happens in deeper snow. Anyone else have a similar experience on their first Audi quattro winter drive?
I am moving from florida to toledo Oh next summer. The fwd B7 will be traded for a B8 AWD. That will be nice. Better car, lighter, roomier and a way better Auto tranny. Wife has been on me about buying it but I told her after the move she cold get it. Should be fun.
Survived the Blizzard. The car just zipped along with no problems. Ice and deep snow did not phase it. It was great to go to my favorite cross country ski area before the tracks were all trampled by walkers. I was able to get into and out of the parking area with out getting stuck. No trama or drama whatsoever. We had over 13 inches of snow. My Jetta, could not be driven in the parking area until a number of vehicles had crushed down the snow. It got stuck in there at least 4 times over the years.
These can still be high centered, so keep that in mind when pushing through the deeper stuff. In Alaska, we Subaru Front Wheel Drive people used to say the Jeeps and their 4 Wheel Drives just got them in farther and deeper before they had to walk out.
Even coming from a 76 F250 4wd Ranger XLT, the axles are still the closest thing to the ground under the truck, and you can't always push through everything.
Want to keep having fun? Know and respect those limits. It's much easier to drive 'that guy' home than to be 'that guy'.

I know this is the wrong forum to post this in but we just had our first real ice/ snow event here in north carolina , I was amazed at how well my B3 1989 audi 90 quattro performed on the snow/ice covered roads! Mywife and I ascended a hill that other SUV type vehicles failed at due to either poor driver or inadequate speed? Those that were onlookers said that my AUDI's wheels were not spinning wildly but steadily engaging as they gripped us up this pretty steep incline? One of the SUV's was a brand new KIA Sorento that did not make it up the hill and it was 4x4? The previous week the owner of the KIA told me to get a newer car? I guess as long as I work on mine myself I'll be keeping it!!! I am still amazed at how seemlessly my audi transmitted traction to the wheels!! I didnt even feel the wheels spin?
THE ART OF QUATTRO ALL WHEEL DRIVE I guess?

I also had my first snow a week ago. It was a pretty bad one here. I was impressed with it, considering the tires are only Pirelli P6's. I was used to an old Honda Accord with 185 width tires, which got along pretty well considering. I figured with 235's on the Audi I'd be skiing alot, but it's tolerable. Though because of the tire width, slush pockets influence the car more than it should.
Once the snow started to melt as rain started, I went out to lunch at work. Because it was really only wet I was going my normal speeds, there was a slight bend(40mph turn in a 45mph zone) and I was going maybe 50ish or so. But I almost got sent into the sippy willows because the tires were skiing on the slush. I happen to be in 5 gear without any boost, so when I hit the gas to save myself, the lag nearly killed me.
Thankfully it built boost at the last minute and I saved it. Bad on me for having a lax in concentration. Always travel a gear low in these conditions to power out of anything like that, especially in turbo car.

Just got done driving in the snow storm in MD, had about 8-14 inches. Car was having some troubles on uphill roads, just didnt want to run through previous driven in snow. Had to take the traction control off to get the car to move. Are the tires what really has the largest impact? Have what came with the car, cooper xeon's. Cannot wait to get rid of them when they go. 2.0T 6sp man BTW.
My first snow driving in an Audi was in Bozeman, Montana, in a 1984 Audi 4000 S Quattro. This car only had Quattro, no ESP, no ABS. I had to try very hard to get that car stuck! Quattro plus dedicated snow tires equals a lot of fun!!!
Good luck with your snow driving! Post some pics if you get some
