Smile Is this a good deal and question about performance

Hi I'm new here and currently have a 2002 A4 1.8T. I'm looking into getting a new car and a friend of my parents has a 2007 A4 2.0T with about 37k miles and I'm curious what a decent price to pay for this would be? I believe they want 17k but I'm not sure what features it has so I can't say for certain if that is a good deal. I don't know the details about them as of yet, will post them once I find out, but from what I understand they basically bought the very top of the line model in 2007 when they purchased the car.

On another tangent, after an APR ECU I understand that I would need a new exhaust or a test pipe to get the most efficient power increase without breaking the bank but I'm curious what the top test pipes and exhausts are? At the moment I'm just looking to make this car a good daily driver that has some adequate get up and go when necessary. My current A4 is a manual and this car is an automatic so I'm a bit worried about power lost due to the transmission.

I'm currently a college student at a school 1800 away from home so I want something reliable, which is why I'm looking at this car because of the low mileage and single owner, but I also want something fun to drive around.

Private party base value is around 15k. If it had every single available option at the time it's close to 19k. So 17 is probably about right.

APR's test pipe is about $250, vs. ECS Tuning's pipe which is about $150.
Unfortunately I couldn't tell you what the difference is. I never put one on because I'd fail my emissions test come state inspection time.

Get the car checked out. If everything's in good shape and it was the top of the line, that's a decent price.

Default Exhaust?

Would an exhaust be better than a test pipe if I still want to pass inspections?

Definitely, but it'll be 3-4x the cost, and unfortunately won't net much of a power increase over what a test pipe would yield.

On a stock setup...an ECU flash, exhaust, and cold air intake are pretty much going to max your engine power -- and even the cold air intake is negligible. After that you're talking turbo upgrades and so on.

I'm not sure what the stock diverter valve revision is on the 07's, but if it's not 'D', you'll want to upgrade that because it's now designed to handle the increased boost pressure from an ECU flash. Perhaps someone with an 07 can confirm what revision was used at the time.

About how much would an exhaust be? I'm looking at around 1-2k in upgrading after buying the car so I don't know which would be better but I know I can't go the test pipe route if I won't pass inspections every year here in colorado with one.
