Default help asap, do i need a sat. radio tuner?

i have a 2008 A4 S-line. factory radio/6disk and everything. i tried searching but couldnt find anything useful. im looking at getting a satellite radio subscription and am wondering if i need a separate tuner. the head unit has the "Sat" button and if i press the button it says 'no sat radio'

does this mean i need a subscription or a tuner?
is there a website or database anywhere i can check my car specifically?

thanks

The cars didn't come with the Sat radio tuner installed from the factory. Just the wiring. The tuner itself was an accessory.

If you had the tuner installed and you pressed the satellite button, you would hear audio from the 'preview' channel. If you're not hearing that, then you will need the tuner.

awesome, thanks for the heads up.
i think i read on here that there is a space in the trunk on the left side storage bin? can this be used for a sat. tuner or is that for the navigation?

Yep, the storage compartment in the left side of the trunk is where my sat unit is housed.

I put mine inside of the storage cabinet, but if you remove that side trunk liner all together, there's actually a spot directly above that cabinet that the factory SAT unit goes.

I found these pictures online to explain it a bit better.

This is the front of the little cabinet. It's an older model, so it doesn't have the same hinge door that ours does, but the SAT location is still the same.

If you spin that cabinet around, you'll see where the factory mounted SAT turner goes. This way it isn't in the cabinet, to possibly get damaged.

Your car will be pre-wired for all of this. You simply need to remove the drivers side (left) trunk lining and take out the cabinet. Then locate the wires to plug everything in.

Sorry, I should have clarified, it is actually above the storage bin not in it.

To use your factory plugs, antenna and radio with your Satellite radio, you will need to purchase the factory sat unit itself.

Something like this:

thanks again

i see that the ecs listing says the sirius tuner wont work for a car with a tire pressure monitoring system. my car is 2008 and has the TPMS so is this gonna be a problem? ecs also has a XM tuner and a sirius tuner, is there a difference? which one should i get or which one works with the B7 A4?
