how much will my idiocy cost me?
Bought a 2007 Audi a4 cab...love the car, freakin awesome!
but i really messed up...when parking i went too far into the spot and ran over the cement block at the end of the spot. When i reversed, it hooked on the bottom and forced the bumper loose. the bumper ripped at both sides. Went to a friend of a friend who is in the repair business. he said i need a new bumper and will cost alot (>1k) and my deductible is 1k. Its not really scratched, just came loose, but he said since the sides tore apart, i need a new bumper. How much should this cost me to fix? just want to make sure i am not gettin raped.
Thanks

It is difficult to say not being able to see the damage. These bumpers are made up of a plastic bumper cover bolted to a shock mounted support. It sounds like you may have damaged the bolt points that hold the bumper cover on. If these points were ripped out then it would be difficult to repair them. Most auto body shops just want to replace parts and not fix them. Go find another repair shop and ask them if they can repair the damage without replacing it and see what they say. I would bet it doesn't take more then an hour to remove the bumper and assess the damage. The problem with doing that is now you are committed to getting it fixed. Another option is getting a used one from a salvage (recycle) yard. Time to go do your homework.
. I found a bolt on the ground at the scene of the accident.
all the guy said on the phone was 1250. The reason I think it may be a legit price is the cheapest bumper i can find online is 650, and that is not painted. So, getting from the dealer is probably 800 ish, then 450 for paint + labor doesnt seem terrible.
