I thought Audi officially recanted their 10k recommendation - I could be dreaming...I still change mine a 5k...regardless of what may or may not be a waste of money, it's plenty black when it comes out after 5.

Default Instructions Anywhere?

Are there step by step instructions (with pictures would be best ) anywhere on this site for doing these maintenance/mod items Kris mentions? If so, please provide the link.
Many thanks.

Buy a Boost Gauge.

VW / Audi Coil Packs. They are a recall item on almost every model out there. No warranty needed so go get some new ones installed as you will have a failure eventually. They are free so do it.

PCV failures --My recommendation would be to purchase a BSH PCV fix. It's about $100 and is foolproof and will not fail. Get one.

Diverter Valves are another common failure Get one. Not an aftermarket one! OEM Part # 06H145710D

Cam Follower. check and replace this $60 part (Dealer cost). If you plan on keeping your car for a while anyway.

If you are mechanically inclined, check and change your cam follower. it is directly under the high pressure fuel pump on top of the engine. It is not real hard to do.

Thumbs up

Thanks for this info! I just bought a '06 A4 2.0T. I plan on checking the cam follower this week as the car has 48k on it. Will also look at the BSH PCV fix. Looks like money well spent.
Very informative thread/site!

You might be able to get the dealer to check it since your warranty is about to expire. If they won't you do it and make them pay the parts if its bad. You are almost up at 50K

2wdBlazer, fantastic info, good work.

I have a Nov 2007 (from new) with about 35,000miles, how can I check what DV I have?

I will just replace the PCV, car uses about 1 litre of oil every 2000miles or so. It seems to vary a bit thought, sometimes 2000, sometimes it seems like a lot more between topups.

I am GIAC chipped and love it, what do you mean by they wont fix the check engine light? I have no check engine light issues - I also have the handheld control unit to let me switch it from stock to street tune.

Clutchmasters FX400 is about to go in too....the stock clutch started slipping at about 20,000miles.

You would have to pull the DV off to check. Most likely being a 2007 it is not the best DV as it would have a rubber diaphram and not the good piston sitting in there.

As far as GIAC goes they do not cover the codes for stage 2. Stage 1 is fine but if you add a test pipe you will most likely get a CEL. Some people use spacers on the o2 sensor to fool the computer but it only works for some people. Upgrade that DV and enjoy. I love my stage 2 car.

Thanks for the information on the HPFP Cam Follower. I just bought a used '08 A4 (CPO), w/33,000 miles on it.

I went and ordered a Cam Follower, and as soon as it comes in, will have the HPFP pulled and the Cam and the Follower inspected. If everything checks out OK, will replace the old CAM Follower in there w/the new one, whether it needs it or not.

I know one thing, I've talked to a least two Audi Service Departments, as well as someone at Acktuning.com, and I've been told that either the issue has been fixed by Audi, w/a more hardered steel being used, or told not to worry about it until my engine warning light comes on, and finally, that it is strickly a Volkswagon issue, on their older engines.

UPDATE:

I finally got mine done. The Cam Follower itself was around $60, and the labor to inspect and replace, $170.

The Cam Follower coating was worn off, w/the bare metal polished and starting to wear, and the inside surface was starting to wear as well. The engine Cam surface itself was OK.

.
