Key spinning, stuck in ignition
Girlfriend picked up this beauty of a car ('07 A4 quattro Cab 2.0) yesterday from the dealer, and we were enjoying it all day yesterday. This morning I backed it out of garage to figure out the garage door opener. After a couple failed attempts, I went to switch the ignition off (needed it in "on" position), and key just spun in the tumbler, and car wouldn't shut off. Finally got key out, but steering wheel was not locked, car still on, shifter in Park. Put in Valet key. After wiggling/spinning key with pressure in towards the column, car turned off/wheel locked. But now the valet key is stuck in the ignition switch. I tried numerous ways to remove key, searching threads here, but those don't mention the key just spinning in the switch. It rotates clockwise freely, counterclockwise there is resistance. I'm going to assume that the tumbler is shot. Should I worry about trying to remove the key at this point? How much will this repair run, assuming I have to pay for the repair (car has 3month/3000 mi warranty from the car dealer).
Thanks in advance for any info.
