Default Looking at a CPO B7...Opinions?

New to the Audi world, but with my new job I have finally decided to pull the trigger and get one to replace my current daily driver.

Found an Audi I am in love with, and was curious if any of you experienced Audi owners have any insight to offer on it before I went and looked at it. It is a legit S-line model with one owner and a clean carfax. I know it would need to have the cam follower replaced as it is sitting with 31k miles on the odo.

The dealership is asking about $27k for it. I was wondering at what price would it be considered a good buy? I was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of $21k out the door.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

$27k definitely seems high for the mileage. But since it's CPO, $21k might be a little too low.

They came back at $23,600 as their rock bottom.

I think you can do much better. Pretty expensive. Four weeks ago we bought our '08 A42.0T w/ 31k miles and navi and CPO for $23.1k from an Audi dealer. Almost fully loaded with the exception of heated seats. The car also had 9 months left of original warranty, so we almost get 2 3/4 years of warranty. The CPO is never extensive as original, but covers most major components with an $85 deductible. Be aware as well. CPO warranties, I believe issued after '08, are NOT transferable. Location also affects the pricing of the car as well. Where are you located? Good Luck.

I am in VA, and the car is in PA.

It is about a 4 hour drive for me to look at it, however it has all of the options I want: S-line suspension, heated seats, white, 6 speed blah blah blah. The dealer said $23.6k was rock bottom with the 2 year CPO warranty effective after the standard warranty expires.

Thoughts? This is my first big car purchase so I am nervous as all hell.

A 4 hour trip is 8 hrs both ways. For me, it's a long way to go for a car unless it is exactly what you are looking for or for a great price. Remember, you DON'T have to buy and the dealer needs to move cars. I would throw $22k at him and see what he says. If he says no, tell him that's all you have and if he wants to sell you the car, give you a call and hang up. If they come up with a price you like, have them fax and sign a document with the price and VIN on it and leave them a deposit and have that reflected on the fax. This protects you from traveling 4 hours to have the deal fall apart or have them say they sold it. Don't sound too anxious. 2009's are beginning to come off lease so better deals may be had for a B7. We paid a little more as the car was for out daughter who is 500 miles away and the CPO along with the navi was a necessity. It wasn't cheap, but not expensive either for an '08 CPO car from a dealer. You didn't mention if it was quattro or if it had navi, both add to the price. In the end, as long as you are happy with the deal and the car and decide to purchase, it's all good.

My fault, it is a quattro, and does not have a navi. The lack of navi matters quite little to me....I like challenging my 'man-dar' every chance I get.

Other than that I think it has all the options I really want, and is in the color I want. I totally agree with your logic about the 09's coming down in price in the near future, but I think I actually prefer the B7 styling over the B8 (mainly in the rear).

I don't plan on getting all hyped up when I go to look at/drive it. Generally I try to look for reasons not to spend large amounts of $$$ if I don't have to. Fortunately I have the girlfriend's 135i for the drive up there (which is a blast), and who knows...maybe a A4 for the drive home.

Thanks dragoncoach for your input and advice. I think you lowered my worry level about getting ripped off from a price standpoint. If I end up purchasing, I am sure you will find pics up on the forum in no time.

I personally would not pay more than 20K on a nice 08. The B8's are flooding in the market and my A4 was dropping on the BB value as much as my monthly $400 payment. Like a rock. In 6 months they will be very low priced.

If it is CPO try to stay with 08's because your years will be getting low on the warranty.

I don't understand your posts/logic. First you sell your A4 because you are afraid of owning a car without a warranty. Then, you say he shouldn't pay, or you wouldn't pay more than $20k for an '08. No Audi dealer is going to sell you a used CPO '08, with 35k miles, pretty much fully equipped for that price. It's not realistic. Maybe later this year but not now. Actually, wholesale car prices were up 10% last month. Also remember CPO warranties on Audis sold after '08 are non transferrable.

Not an expert here, but based on what I paid, You should be able to get it with the CPO for the low 20's
