Default Manual Trans - Oil change - 2005.5 A4 2.0T FWD

Hello there gents,
new to the Audi world, just acquired a 2005.5 A4 2.0T, front wheel drive, stick.
The car was very well maintained at the dealership, super clean.

After driving it for 2 months or so, I noticed that shifting into 3rd gear is not as smooth as it should be. Then recently it started happening when going to the 2nd, too - you can hear an occasional min grind/thump kinda sound. Never happens when downshifting though.

Synchros came to mind, of course, but before I get depressed with a thought of replacing them or replacing a gear box, I'd like to start with changing trans oil first. I have a friend who's a VW geek and can help me with this.

Do you think it might help and if so, what kind of fluid should go in there? Do I need to change diff, too? I live in New England and temps go down here in the wither so this might be relevant, too.

The car has 118K, did timing belt right after I got it.

The funny thing is that shifting did not present any issues when I got it. I've been driving stick my entire life so it's not that I abused the gearbox in 2 months to a point where synchros would start failing.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much
