Default Multitronic Gearbox Good or Bad?

I've just brought a 2007 A4 Cabriolet with the Multitronic gear box, it's my first Auto Multitronic. is there anything I need to look out for, known issue etc?

idk about any mechanical issues since i havent had any but my car is just fine with 66k miles on it. the tiptronic (i believe thats the audi term) is fun and fast but also foolproof. if you forget to down shift it will do it for you, should also upshift if you redline for too long.

So the Tiptronic is the sports mode that allows you to shift manually?

No, in my car Sport is a separate position on the shifter that changes the shift points to be higher for more acceleration and sportier feel. It could be different in some, but I have two separate things: Sport and "Shift it yourself" (Tiptronic). PS - I have the 2.0T quattro, so I have the real auto transmission, not the CVT. Not sure what they put in the V6.

yea, the 'sport' mode is the S position at the bottom of the shifter that is still completely automatic. the 'manual' mode is to the right of D, with the + and - to indicate up and down shift. if you have the paddle shifters on the steering wheel, you can also just press them at any time to temporarily take over shifting, this is great for quick passing. when you do this, the gear numbers will show up on the dashboard and then after a short time without pressing the paddles, it goes back to the normal auto display.

That's the one thing I really wish my car had.

I do Have the paddle shift on mine, it does work well but quite annoying that it starts shifting on it's own if you don't change with the paddle's often enough.

what do you mean? like the over/under rev protection? or are you not pushing the shift **** over into the 'manual' mode?

I will try and explain what I am doing. My car has the paddle's on the steering wheel, the + and - next to the D position on the shifter and S (sport mode, or whatever Audi call it). When I am in D the paddle's don't work, when I shift to S the paddle's work but if I don't touch the paddles (Change gear) in about 10 seconds the car starts changing on it's own even in S mode, I thought the point was that when S mode was enabled you changed with the paddle's unless you redline it and then the car takes over.
