Default oil consumption?

Couple of months ago, i changed the engine oil on my friends audi B7. He drove it for like 3600 miles and the tachometer lights up Engine Oil Level Min sign. I checked the dip stick and it indicated on the low sign which i assume the engine lost near 1 qt. Oh, i put Castrol 0w30 because this engine oil is pretty popular and i like it in my 350z.
I did not find any oil leakage near drain plug or the oil filter. If the oil were to leak 1 qt, then it'll be obvious to show the leakage just by glancing under the engine.
Is this normal or is the car having oil consumption? I refilled with very close to 1 qt of oil.

thanks.

Yeah, that's pretty normal in the 2.0T.

Default B7 Oil consumption

I concur with eMacPaul...my 2008 A4 turbo consumes oil too between oil changes.

german cars don't leak oil but these 2.0Ts are known for consuming some oil or some say that the lighter oils like 0W-40 vaporize easier than the thicker oils. i've had the low oil light come on twice..both times it was close to the oil change interval, during the summer with 0W-40 and after driving it hard since the last oil change. i only needed to add about half a quart both times. during the summer, he should use 5W-40.

Get used to it. It's probably one of the down sides to the car. My daughters car gets about the same but I have her check the oil every 1000 miles . So far it looks like it uses about a quart and a half for every 5000 mile oil change. I was also told by one of the service tech's that they put in 5 quarts instead of 4 1/2 so people don't thing it burns to much oil. You just need to stay on top of it. For a German design this should not happen. I also use 5w-40w Castrol.

i stumbled across a subaru forum when i was searching for something and oil consumption is common for those turbo engines as well. i honestly believe that the turbo boils off oil at the turbo and that's probably why you can see soot on the tail pipes. you never hear about the V6 or V8 engines "consuming" oil.

isn't recommended oil weight 5w30?
I live in California so the temp change is not severe.
when should he change the engine oil next since he added a quart at 3600 miles.

thx guys

no you must use 5W-40 not 5W-30. use a VW 502 approved oil. when i use 5W-40 i use castrol syntec. i would recommend changing every 5000 miles from the last oil change, not top up. see if the 5W-40 does the trick.

hmm I used 0w30.. is that fine? the bak of the bottle says vw 502 approved. I thought 0w30 castrol is the only true synthetic in castrol brand so I chose 0w30.
sorry I or he doesn't have a manual. what is the recommended oil change interval? some say 10000 miles. ..
