hondas and toyotas are no more reliable than any other car. they've been recalling millions of cars in the last year for catastrophic problems and you're still giving credit to the cheap throw away vehicles. i've owned a money pit of a lexus. my uncle has had the same benz for 20 years and it's been flawless.

i have no plans to "look for a good mechanic" either, pal. no need. stick that tact in your pipe and smoke it.
Show me some hard data other than you anecdotal evidence that suggests europoean cars are more reliable than asian. BTW, you seem really angry, get some counseling or something.

i have no incentive to prove anything to you. you strike me as just another mindless consumer. you don't read the facts that i write anyhow. you also use the number of cars that you have owned as a measuring stick on knowledge about cars. purely delusional. own one or two cars for a long long time and then talk about your experience with those cars. that would have more credential.

The JD Powers servey puts the Japanese cars at the top for reliability. Recently, though, some servey put the A6 near the top for reliablility. I wish I could remember which one.

Remember not to lump all similar cars together. My one sisters Jetta, Beatle, Passat, were very trouble free, and then there was my Jetta, which made up for all of them. It was a reliability headache. My other sisters, three Audi's have been less trouble than her Benz. I know many different people that have owned the same model car, and one had no problems with theirs, the other had all kinds of trouble. My dad even had that experience. He had an "88" and "90" Chevy Caprice. The 88 was reletively trouble free, the 90 had more problems, though nothing catastropic or big.

WazimA if you are thinking about an B7 A4, definitly drive one. Like I said before, I love it. It is a great car. I have driven other peoples Japanese sedans, and found them dull and not exciting to drive. I was at the dealer getting my Jetta repaired again, when I saw my Audi on the lot. I made the mistake of driving it, and didn't want to give it back. It's interior, and driving dynamics were similar to my Jetta GLX, so I felt right at home. Just get a CPO off lease, then any possible mechanical problems that crop up will not be your problem, but Audi's. I don't knock having a good relationship with the mechanic. After having all the trouble with my Jetta, I have a good relationship with the dealer, and they will move mountains for me when it comes to getting me in for working on my cars.

If you don't care to have the quattro, then I would save some money, and get the Jetta you mentioned. It will drive similar to the Audi, with about the same amount of interior space and bigger trunk. You can even get the Jetta equiped with the same 2.0t the A4, or the fuel stingy TDI.

Good Luck shopping.

Thanks for your input. We are looking at other possibilities and the jetta/passat are up there on our list.
