Default Potential A4 Owner questions.

I think I am posting this in the right place. I am in the market for a A4 and came across this one: cityauto.com Error

I come from driving a SVT Focus for 9 years and I have some questions.

1. I was under the impression that boost came on at a very low rpm something like 1800?. While driving it seemed to bog down quite a bit until around 4k. Is that normal or a common problem.

2. From my understanding it has the stock clutch still in it. While driving it the clutched seemed extremely light. Now my perception may be skewed due to having a heavier clutch maybe.

I have read already on the sticky at the top of the section but I was wondering anyway.

Hmm.. Not sure. My 2.0TFSI (200hp) gets it's umph (280nm/207lb) torque at 1800 rpms and takes off pretty good when it is at lower (1800+) rpms. Max Hp power from these models hits at 5100rpms. Remember torque is for take off, hp is speed. Your SVT was no doubt a lot lighter than the A4. Maybe the one you are looking at has clutch or engine issue's? Anything is possible when buying used. Make sure it has had its regular service (check the service book) and it was not abused. You can always chip these engines for more HP/torque but if quick take off's are your thing you might want to check out the A3 2.0T. It is quicker due to less weight.

One more thing for the A4, the 6sp manual is the best tranny for the A4 2.0T (B7 and B8) followed by the tiptronic. Try and stay away from the CVT transmission. If you go A3 check out the DSG or 6sp man.

Good luck!

Stick with the manual and get the quattro. The FWD really drives different and is not great in snow. I had a FWD loaner once and a bad snow hit. I missed the quattro. Also the max torque hits at about 1800, and you can feel the surge. You might want to have the car checked for error codes. My diverter valve failed, and didn't throw a code on the dash display. The car just started acting doggy. I went to the dealer for something else and they just happened to plug the car into check for codes and found the error code for it. I had completely lost boost since the valve was dumping all the pressure. It's a known problem. As for the clutch mines light and buttery smooth, with 101000 miles on on the car. You'll love the car what ever one you get.
