This usually relates to the TCU tranny computer. It (or an engine bay sensor) may have gotten wet. Low on fluid maybe.

Does your car feel like it is in limp mode?

yea i dont know what this means exactly but the owners manual says you are screwed. hopefully its not that bad but you need to have it checked out asap. like brrman said, it may be in 'limp mode' which means it will stay in 4th (?) gear if you drive it.

when did it happen? any accidents or anything out of the ordinary that would cause it?

Red face

Got it scanned at AutoZone report said it was failed transm. range sensor or open or short circuit condition...
The engine light does come on at times but will go off and everything seems fine again.
It started about a week ago out of the blue...
Dang it!!

lucky dude. Mine went flashing and I tried to limp it home. $4600 later I had a new tranny.

You might as well get your fuel pump cam follower checked too...

Here's how it went for me:

2 days left on my warranty, I get around to having that intermittent MIL checked out - cam follower, and I am assuming it ruined the cam as they had it for about a week. Now warranty is out, I pick it up and I'm test driving, transmission blows.

Audi customer advocates helped me by covering the $4,600, but it took them a month to get around to deciding on it.
