Default Question about headlight bulbs

Just wondering what everyone is using for bulbs. I just bought a 2008 a4 sline and I hate stock bulbs. Anyone using LEDs or other HIDs? If so what brands or where you bought them online?

Ok I've read in a couple other threads about a d2s bulb but if I do a bulb search online it says mine is a d1s bulb?? Is it that right being a 2008?

That is certainly possible. The problem is that if you didn't buy the car new it will be hard to find out which exact bulb you will need without actually looking really close at your headlight assembly.
There are 2 options basically:
1. Halogen (h7 ist OE)
2. HID/Xenon (D1S is OE)

The other thing is if you are not the first owner the previous owner could have installed some after market kit and therefore changed whatever the car came with originally. Again it could have been H7 (Halogen) and after the upgrade D1S or maybe even some other bulb that was never designed to be but in the B7 Audi A4. Either way the safest best would be to pull 1 bulb out and look at it. They all have some kind of numbers/description on them and will tell you what you need to get to replace them. Look for the same kind (so if it is D1S, stick with that and just look for other Kelvin numbers, if you want a different look).
Lower kelvin numbers are yellow, higher numbers turn blue and purple:

3k-5k: Yellow
6k-10k: Blue
>10k: Purple

I was just reading about that yesterday. Like why would they have to totally different bulb types in the same car. But thank you for the info. I will surely check the car first.

The reason they have 2 different bulb types is because of "options". If you buy a brand new Audi you want to have options and not be limited to only 1 type. The Halogen comes with the base model the HID/Xenon is for the upgrade models (like prestige) or certain extra packages.
I understand it makes it more complicated for people who buy these used (like me) but that is probably not Audi's main concern as they want to please the first buyer crowd more than anyone else.

In this case though it's pretty easy to find out what you have by taking a single bulb out - or simply looking at the headlight itself. Usually if the light has all reflective material it's halogen while the HID/Xenon has the single large bulb. Take a look at this article - it will explain the options nicely and show the difference in the first picture:

That was a good article write up. Just out of curiosity then, do all the Audie's say h7 or d1s molded right into the headlight housing? I mean I would assume so. But if that's the case I can use either bulb with no issues, correct? The headlights have that reflective material in the housing and just by looking at the bulb inside the housing they are definitely halogen.

What about replacing the bulbs with Powered LED bulbs??Anyone on here tried that?? I heard the LED bulbs aren't really that bright as far as range.

i have a 2008 with the factory halogen bulbs. i tried to do HID the cheap way and it was a joke. DO NOT put any other bulb in the factory housing besides halogen. the housing is designed to properly reflect the light from a halogen bulb. it wont work with HID bulbs and i wouldnt bother with LED. trying to get something that works better, let alone correctly, would be a nightmare. you have to consider the power input/connection, heat control, space, alignment, and light pattern. so yea. just get the best halogen bulbs you can or get HID housings like i did. these are plug n play and are all around awesome

theretrofitsource.com is also a great place for HID bulbs and accessories

Thank you for the input. Your response along with the others have helped a lot. I do like those headlights you sent in the link. I think that's the route I'm gonna go. Just wondering did you purchase the warning cancel too? Or was it not needed ?
