I also have an 06 A4. I have only gotten the left dipped msg a few times now and then. But I have been told the particular icon everyone is asking about, is a failure of the headlight auto range system. When my lights first come on, they move around and then center themselves. The icon pops up as soon as I move the shifter from park, and stays on whether the lights are on or not. They no longer move with the steering wheel tho. After some more research, I might try the range control module. I think its located left side of trunk. This headlight system is junk.

Hi just bought an audi a3 2006 and on the way home noticed the right dipped headlight warning I would turn them off and back on and would be fine for a while. I then noticed the left headlight would dip but never both at the same time. I now have the rear fog light doing it too. Is this just a matter of new bulbs or do u think it's something more? I assume the igniter is working along with the ballast or could this be cutting out? If I switch the headlights off and back on the symbol on the dash will stay for a bit even though light is back on.

Yes replace bulbs. I had exactly same about 4 years ago, I replaced both sides headlamp bulbs together and it's been fine, till last few weeks when one side is beginning to play up again. Your rear fog light is just likely to be a coincidence.

Is the light flickering/failure issue a bulb or ballast problem? Sometimes my 2006 A4 headlights are on while the fault signal is showing. The problem seems to occur more frequently during wet or humid weather. Turning off and on is a pain. there has to be a simpler solution. It can be expensive to just start replacing bulbs and ballasts. Any certain fixes out there?

Bulbs aren't too bad off Amazon (less than $40). Replacing the offending bulb fixed mine (going on a year now without a problem).

Lightbulb New bulbs work...so far

I just changed both of my bulbs this week. There was a good slide show posted in this forum that I used. For the left side you have to remove the windshield washer reservoir (make sure it's empty) and then unbolt and push the power steering reservoir back and zip tie it to your brake lines to keep it out of the way. Removing and reinstalling the star screws that secure the back cover to the bulbs is the hardest part of the bulb change on the left side. It's a tight squeeze. If you don't have a right angle/90 degree star screw driver, buy one as an investment in your sanity. Changing the bulbs is the easy part.

The right side just remove the intake duct (two phillips screws just in front of the weather stripping above the right side of the grill (or left side as you are standing in front of the car) and then move the filter box. I used some string to hang it up on the hood latch to keep it out of the way.

I had the caution light and headlight flickering then going out for about the past 4 years. I was driving on the interstate at night two weeks ago and the left headlight went out as well. I bought Sylvania bulbs (~$50/each) and they were basically OEM.

I did receive a different caution light from what everyone else has shown though. My "idiot light" showed a light bulb with a red circle and slash imposed over top, but it still said right (or in a few instances left) dipped headlight. I live in northern Florida, but I seemed to have more problems when the temperature was cooler (<60F, people up north don't laugh or scoff too loud, I grew up near Cleveland so I know what cold really is).

I hope the bulbs fix your problem.

Mark

Hoping that you guys could help me out.

I have a 2006 a4.

First came the left headlamp dipped problem and I replaced the whole assembly.

A couple of weeks ago, someone smashed the left quarterpanel where the car was parked.

I replaced that assembly again with a used one to save a few bucks.

Now I am getting the same error (in the picture above) on the left side AND a right headlight dipped msg, both in the dash.

I have the partially smashed but fully functional left assembly.

Can I use the old (fairly new bulb) on the left side, and the working ballast to fix the right side and save some dough?

These are the bulbs that turn with the steering wheel. They're great lamps, but I am not sure if I would have purchased them knowing how much trouble they'd be a mere 9 years later.

Thank you!

Offcourse you can use bulb and ballast if needed from other one, why not? Just be careful to avoid contact with the glass of the bulbs that's it, if you do then you'll need to clean it with an appropriate solvent that'll evaporate otherwise it'll cause a hot spot and can blow it.

Cool A4 2lT S-Line

Hi, Im new!
I have a sline 2008 a4 have a problem with it going into first gear at red lights have to put it in 3rd first????? WTH.
Also warranty just expired 5 km ago and to the minute my head light leveler light came on?
Also just had APR ECU upgrade and APR test pipe system installed.
It is winter here I am alomst wondering if the headlights may have gotten moisture past the seals and froze something ??? Its booked into the shop for friday. I am noticing some kind of scam people are speaking of where they charge you for the leveler it doesnt fix the problem then they make you come back for new bulbs? Any one recommend asking certain questions before authorizing the work or have any input? Greatly appreciated.
