symptoms of thermostat failure...?

I would try the thermostat although why that would be forcing the fans on when the engine is cold is beyond me. Might try (if your car has it) turning on the ECON button(if this is not selected then the AC may run as well which can cause the engine fans to run). Sorry, really not much help.

Okay so not sure if anyone is still active on here but, I'm having an issue with car turning on and the fans turn on with it, I put heat to like 80 and max and it blows out cold and also the coolant level was -40° when I checked it with OBD11 I assumed it was the Coolant Temp Sensor so I replaced that and got a CEL for it I cleared it and still came back, the fans are still running every time I start up car and they don't turn off I'm not sure what it could be at this point the I'm going to replace the thermostat, begging of next week when it comes in hopefully see if that may solve my issue but if anyone knows what is causing this issue please let me know would really appreciate it.

I recently purchased a 2007 Audi A4 2.0T 70.000 miles on it. Within about 500 miles my coolant hose popped off for whatever reason. Light came on and I started noticing the heat rise. I pulled over and had to fill it with water to get it home to then drive a separate vehicle to get some coolant. Without draining the water I just topped it off with the coolant. About three days later the code p2181 popped up for coolant system blah blah.. i then started noticing that the temp gauge would vary in the morning with the heater on it would be at about 1/4 to 1/2 and in the afternoon it would be about the same more so at a 1/4 on the freeway. I read alot about it already assuming it may either be a sensor of the thermostat, but just wondering if possibly it over heating slightly or me mixing water into may have caused something else
