Default Time for a new battery or something else?

I have a 2006 A4 and I'm experiencing slow start ups when I turn the on the ignition. When I turn the key nothing happens for a second or more which is unusual for my car. I don't hear any clicking sounds as I turn the key, which I've experienced before in my older cars. The dashboard display will also not look as bright once the engine starts. Also my clock will reset to 12 am and the date says 2-10-2005. Winter is starting and temperatures are close to freezing when this started.

I bought the car used and I'm thinking the battery is probably starting to expire and needs to be replaced.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or is the problem with something else?

Well my battery went last winter. It would start slow, no clicking and no delay etc. Then one day, nothing battery was dead. I did not have my clock reset or the display dimming, though it could be one of the symptoms I guess. The temps we had in Germany last winter were around -10C when it went.

Started my car today. Took about 3 cranks till the engine started. Drove 2 miles and had the engine running for 15 minutes before I turned it off. 10 minutes later I went to start it and nothing happened except for a clicking sound. So the battery died and I got a jump start. I'm out of town seeing family and took the car to my mom's mechanic. I was quoted the total would be $200 or more.

I'm sure that could be cheaper buying a battery from Audi online parts and DYI installation given I learn how.

go to walmart. they should have an aftermarket battery that will fit and be better for about $115-120, depending on your area. just check they book they have or maybe call the dealer and get the 'size' of the battery
