Default Timing Belt

I just did 72,000 miles on my A4 and I was wondering is it time to change the timing belt and if it is should I change the water pump while changing the timing belt so they don't have to charge me for a separate job?

Definitely change the water pump. Any shop that knows these cars should do the belt, tensioner, water pump, all at the same time.

As to the mileage, that's apparently something that is in flux. It was 75k, then Audi upped it to around 100k. Now, according to both the stealership and the (just yesterday), the local German repair shop I trust, they're going back to 75k (my service guy said they were having too many of them not make it to 100k). So, I would plan on doing it soon. I just topped 75k, but I don't have the cash right now, so I'm going to stretch mine a few more months until I can save up for it. He quoted me $1200.

I just had mine (07 A4- 105K) done today at a local dealership (I know $$$$) $1450 to be exact. It seems there is really no definitive answer to when to change it. I've heard every 4 years, or between 90-110k, 75k, and my dealer now told me 85k and that I was way over. So I really believe nobody knows. I based mine on my driving style freeway cruising. I don't red line it and live in a cooler environment. I asked to see the belt and it looked new. No cracks and felt good. If I had a chance to see it before I committed to this huge expense I would have postponed it til at least 150K. I almost feel like I got ripped off. I don't doubt it was a ton of labor but really don't think it was that critical at this time. I am not a mechanic and am not suggesting you don't follow the recommend schedule, but like I said, it looked great. But who's to say this summer the water pump wouldn't have gone out which is replaced with the timing belt. So I am glad it's done but I wouldn't lose sleep over a few extra miles if you don't have the money right at the moment. My two cents

Funny I was at a local dealership to have some maintenance done and some service bulletins, and the service writer told me that I should be considering doing it "soon." And by soon he meant before 115k. Right now I have 97k on an 07' A4T Q. I will be doing it before I hit 100k. Waiting until 115k doesn't seem right.
My local guy said his service manuals say every 75k.

Apparently, they've changed it back. Both Audi and my local shop are telling me 75k miles now.

I waited until 108,000 and had the timingbelt/waterpump etc. done at the same time the extensive cam follower damage got repaired.

The UK Audi Service schedule suggests a Timing Belt and water pump change every 75k or 6 years for a B7 A4.

I went to my Audi dealer today and they said that the 2008 model Timing Belt should be changed around 110K
