What is really needed for chipping?
Hello all!!!
I know this has been talked about before but I've read and read and read.... and this is what I have come up with ... I have a 2007 B7 A4 2.0T and I want to chip it. I installed a cold air return and figured I would go for a bit more HP. But where I don't want to get burned is by chipping my car and having small problems to pay for down the road. I've read in 2 places that I should replace my DV and also the fuel pump. Are these neccessary parts to change or no? My car is still under factory warranty and like I said, I have heard from people that just chipped it and said no problems but alot of talk about things going after your car is chipped. Any help would be great!!!! Thanks!

based on what I've heard is no.. it wont cause problems. I inquired about the DV after I had my 06 A4 chipped. If you continue to use good gas, and dont beat on the turbo when its cold you should be fine. I know for a fact that the dealership kinda turns their heads in regards to whether or not the car has been chipped since they actually have it done for some customers with the purchase of the car.
However the fuel pump replacementim not 100%sure. All i know at this point is it may become a factor later on down the roadif you start adding more mods to your car. If you dont find your answer in here I would start asking your mechanic or localaudi car dealer.

My car has APR 91, stock and security lock out programs. The only issue I had were the DV and PCV leaked due to increase on boost. Those parts were weak anyways, they will bust with or without chip. Audi came up with updated versions, they replaced mine under warranty. With the chip, the gas mileage improve, butI must warn you though, mostA4 driversstarted experiencing heavy foot syndrome after the ecu flash...
As for fuel pump, I haven't had any problems with it. Car got chipped at 800 miles, it now has 25,300

yeah, mine got chipped at 1,300 miles, no issues yet, but apparantly the DV WILL break. Its inevitable. 93 oct chipped with stock program. The difference is night and day and yes, my foot has grown so heavy i have to pry it off the pedal with a crow bar.
For the best result in terms of saving you car from the extra work load, upgrade your DV and upgade your exhaust. However you can do neither and be fine. If you do niether chances are you will need to upgrade your DV sooner or later because it will fail. Upgrading your exhaust is just and extra measure of safety, most people don't do this, but some tuner do recomend this. good luck.
Sounds good, I called my dealer and they can chip it also to what I would like. I asked about changing my DV but he said if I only do the 91 boost then I should be ok.... Their is a shop about 45 minutes from me, a performance shop that does it also and has the shut off feature using your cruise control so the dealer won't know. Not sure which way I'm going to go yet but just did want to spend the 700 bucks and immediately blow the DV. I'm not racing or anything but just want that extra power on the highway and around town (I will probable end up racing a few of my friends but..
) I also heard that if I keep my car for any amount of time the DV will go anyway reguardless of chipping it or not. Anyone heard this? Thanks in advance!!!!!

I wonder if I can trust the dealer to look at my DV and if its not the new version replace it with the new version for me before I chip it. I really don't want anything louder like the F007 just some more power. But also remember that my car is still factory warranty. I would just hate to drive somewhere like 3 hours away and have the dam thing blow a hose or something and I'm stuck. What do you guys think?
an aftermarket DV isn't going to yeild you more power, the chip that raises your boost will, all a DV does is recirculate the air back into the airbox or vent into the atmosphere (BOV) they are for protection purposes only because of the buildup of air that if not for the DV would be put alot of stress on your turbo. from what i keep reading its the stress of the increased boost that causes the DV's to fail, the plastic parts break under the above-normal pressure that they have to deal with.
i'm also curious though because i am thinking i want to chip my car but i'm more interested in long term problems that i have to watch out for. a broken DV isn't going to affect me as much as oh say a broken timing belt [:-] so as for that is there any other issues that i should watch out for?
