Windshield Replacement at the Shop or at Home?
My A4's windshield has a crack from debris in the road. The crack is too large to fill in or buff out, so I need to replace the windshield. I am getting an OEM windshield - I know it costs extra, but I just want it, so end of discussion. Anyway, the auto glass place, recommended by my dealership, offers to come to your home at no extra charge to replace the windshield.
I don't know if it's better to do it at home, or at the shop. There was another thread that said it's better at the shop but didn't say why. On the one hand, having it done at home means I can keep my eye on them to see that they do it right. Also, I can let the car sit for several hours to cure, rather than have to drive it home from the shop right away. On the other hand, they'd have to do it outside as my garage barely fits the car, and it's still cold here in Chicago. Not sure if that matters. Also, perhaps if they do the replacement at the shop they have better equipment than the stuff rattling around in the truck, I dunno.
TIA for your advice/experiences.

Have them come to your home is fine. I use to install auto glass (years ago) and everything they need they carry with them. The only benefits to the shop is if they crack the glass installing it they might have a replacement there and there wouldn't be an additional delay having it sent out to the job site and if they needed any help there are other employees around.
Thanks.
They are coming to my house tomorrow. My garage is so small they'll have to replace the windshield outside. Weather is supposed to be in the mid-40's tomorrow. Are those temps going to be a problem for the adhesive, or anything else?

No, when I was installing I lived in Iowa and we put them in at lower temps (not fun for the installer). I forget what the black stuff we used was called it was sticky as all get out though. It always stays plyable even in freezing temps. Only way it could be a problem is if it is raining.
