Hi, I am totally new to forums and can't even work out how to post a thread, but I have an A5 3.0 tdi quattro with an s tronic gearbox, it keeps coming up with error code 8040-p17d8, I am told there is a tsb out with audi for this fault, (tsb number 2022497) I am told its a problem with the mechatronic ecu bord breaking down. Please can any one help ? The car has 60 k on the clock.

I read this whole thread out of curiosity and all I can say is thank you for MT6 trannies. A couple thoughts however. 1-The 8-speed running in too high a gear is probably just Audi programming to improve gas mileage as much as possible. I can do the same thing by upshifting at relatively low speed and rpm. It will run fine but not accelerate with any power. 2-The comments about the CV shifting hard puzzle me. By definition, a CV does not have gears and does not shift. It "constantly" adjusts the drive gears and there should not be specific points at which things change. 3-The 8-speed seems to get better highway gas mileage than my MT6. Best I did was 30.8 calculated on a 2200 mile RT to Florida at 75-80 mph. She should be well broken in as she had 100k on the odo at that point. Cannot wait until they release the MT8. :-)
