A4 smoking black on takeoff and p0299 code
I just bought a used 2009 A4 2.0t and I am getting a P0299 code. I searched and found a lot of people talking about the diverter valve ripping and causing a boost leak.
However I am also seeing that the 2009 has the upgraded piston type already. Is this true? does the 2009 B8 A4 have the piston type already?
I already purchased a new DV. I just want to know if I'm wasting my time replacing my old DV
Also the black smoke comes out of the tail pipe when accelerating away from a traffic light...but not while driving at speed. The car seems to sputter and choke when the smoke is coming out.
I assume it's too rich do to the boost leak.
Should I change my DV or just do a boost leak test?

Seems like this is a common issue, I've got a 2010 A4 2.0 turbo with your exact symptoms. Have you found a resolution to it? The dealer says I have a cracked turbo and it needs replacement. Supposedly they replaced the divertor valve already.
Let me know.

hello, i am new here, i have the same symptoms on my 2009 A4 2.0 turbo. so far i have had the oil consumption repairs done, and now the car is spewing smoke on acceleration and sputters. i did get a p0302 and a p0299. i replaced the spark plugs as they had not been replaced at the 30k mark (now has 80k). this helped for a bit but then the symptoms returned. i have a new diverter valve in the vehicle and have had a Forge diverter valve spacer in the vehicle since 25K. no clue what is causing the smoke and sputering, read on another forum that there is a vacuum cap on the back of the intake that may crack and fail under hard acceleration so that will be my next check.
if anyone has found a solution to this, please advise. thank you.
