Am I crazy or is my new A4 broken?
Hello Everyone!
I just picked up my new 2011 A4 2 weeks ago and I have noticed some strange goings on with getting the car to go from a stop. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any input would be much appreciated.
Scenario 1: I'm sitting at a stop light - the light turns green. When I hit the gas the car takes a good second or so to even move. At first I thought I'm just stabbing at the gas pedal, but even when I try to apply slow, even pressure it still has the same problem.
Scenario 2: (this one is the most frustrating) parked on an incline and after putting the car into drive and pressing the gas the car just rolls down the hill for a second before the car gets moving in the direction I want it to. Already in two weeks I have jammed my front bumper into curbs because of it.
What should I do? Is it a throttle problem, a transmission problem, or driver error? I really can't base it from anything else since ever since I had it the problem existed.
Thanks

How's it respond in Sport mode?
Do you have the CVT (Multitronic) transmission?
The CVT is a little hesitant at first. Unfortunately.
As far as parking on an incline: keep the electronic parking brake ON and give it gas. When the car feels there's enough torque it will automatically disengage the brake (this is from the manual. They recommend it for incline starts)

The rolling on an incline is due to the Multitronic CVT. Audi says "it is working as designed" and recommends the solution stated in an earlier reply to your question. I have a 2010 a4 FWD and have the same problem. Setting the electronic parking brake works and releases automatically as long as the driver's seat belt is connected. However, if anyone not familiar with the Audi CVT is driving, they can have the problem of rolling on an incline and not know how to resolve the issue. This is especially true if the car is valet parked at a hotel. restaurant, etc.. I have submitted a case about this to Audi and am waiting for them to review it and reply with what they may do to resolve it. Will post the answer when I receive it.
If you have the 8-speed tiptronic (not CVT), in "D" or "M" mode, the transmission disengages from the engine while stopped for fuel economy. Once you get off the brake, it reengages. In Sport mode, it keeps it engaged. Next time you're at a light, go between "D" and "S" and feel the difference.
